Daniel Henry Burbine passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025 in Dallas, TX. Born on Thursday, March 12, 1942, in Stoneham, Massachusetts, Dan was the son of Robert and Corinne Reid. He was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Houston, Rice University, and Texas Christian University, where he earned multiple degrees in a wide array of fields in which he would blend his creativity and intellect throughout his life.
Dan began his professional life teaching 7th grade science before teaching high school biology. He then returned to school, furthering his passion and eventual life-long career in architecture. He was a tinkerer, a builder, a painter and an artist, and eventually, he discovered his passion for aviation, piloting planes for many years. He was both an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Dallas and the St. Luke’s breakfast club for decades.
Dan is survived by his loving companion, Sandra Woodard; his brother Rick Burbine; his children, Kevin (Carlye) Burbine, Emily Rose, and Shannon Elizabeth Burbine; four beautiful granddaughters, Carley, Linley, Whitney, and Cloey Rose; and a host of nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Braunger.
Dan will be remembered as a man of tremendous conviction with a generous spirit. He found quiet joy in secretly gifting treasures to friends and family, many of whom may never have known the true source of their blessing. He was even Kermit the Frog and Santa Claus for many loved ones over the years. His creativity and artistic talents were abundant, from his art, to his work, to his infamous mile-high pizzas (although he loved when others prepared a good brisket, a few pounds of crawdads, or a buttery lobstah). Dan loved to travel, and his career took him all over the world, including the United Kingdom and Australia. However, he felt most at home with his children and grandchildren, and most recently with Sandy, watching the dolphins, at his beach getaway in Emerald Isle, NC. His greatest gift was his unwavering love and devotion to his long-time friends and family.
A celebration of his life will be held in the near future in Dallas for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to:
