

The second of four siblings, Stephen was born on October 15, 1955, in Austin, Texas, to Helen Jakovich Long and Roy Cleveland Long II. His parents were members of the United States Navy, living in San Diego, California; Columbus, Ohio; Austin, Texas; and Halstead, Kansas, before finally settling in Dallas, Texas.
Stephen graduated from W.T. White High School in 1973 and worked as a painter in construction in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for ten years before pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of North Texas, graduating magna cum laude in 1986. He continued his education, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, in 1989, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, he welcomed his daughter, Alia Crystal Long, in 1987. As a physician, Stephen remained at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, completing his medical residency in 1993 to become a board-certified anesthesiologist.
Stephen worked as an anesthesiologist for a number of years in The Woodlands and Kingwood areas of Texas. In 1999, he moved back to Dallas, Texas, where he partnered with a private practice group based at Baylor University Medical Center and continued there until his retirement in 2013.
Originally pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance as an undergraduate, Stephen was a talented classical pianist and gifted his siblings with professional and spinet upright pianos. He enjoyed riding motorcycles from a young age and regularly took family members for trips around town on his Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide. While living in Kingwood, he fully restored a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser to pristine condition and loved driving it daily for more than thirty years.
Stephen is survived by his daughter, Alia Crystal Nassif; son-in-law, Rafik Emil Nassif; granddaughter, Eliana Lily Nassif; grandson, George William Nassif; expected grandson, Daniel Zaki Nassif; sister, Patricia Long Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Timothy Alan Sarvis.
His final resting place is at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas, Texas, alongside his mother, Helen Jakovich Long, and brother, Roy Cleveland Long III.
