Darold Lee Burt

Born on June 1, 1935, Darold grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. He was the son of Lowell F. Burt and Marie E. Lile (later Anderson) and was raised in part by his stepfather, George Anderson. He was also blessed with the love and support of his stepmother, Doris Burt.

Darold proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1965. During his military career, he was stationed in Glasgow, Montana where he served as a Captain with the 13th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Flying the legendary McDonnell F-101 Voodoo, Darold embraced the speed and precision that would define much of his life. The squadron's proud motto, "None Shall Excel Them," reflected the standard of excellence to which he always aspired. His years of military service exemplified his commitment to duty, leadership, and country.

Following his Air Force career, Darold fulfilled his lifelong passion for flying by joining American Airlines in 1965. Based in Dallas, he enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career as an airline pilot before retiring in 1995.

He took great pride in safely transporting countless passengers and treasured the friendships he made throughout his career.

Darold lived life with enthusiasm and a love of speed. He had a passion for cars, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, airplanes, and just about anything that could go fast. Strikingly handsome and blessed with an easy smile and unmistakable charm, Darold was known for turning heads wherever he went. He was generous to a fault, always willing to lend a hand, share what he had, or help someone in need without expecting anything in return. Friends and family knew he also had a playful appreciation for beautiful women, and his wit, charisma, and sense of humor made him unforgettable. When he wasn't chasing adventure, he enjoyed water skiing, picking out dixieland on his banjo, and spent countless hours designing and building elaborate model train layouts, a hobby that reflected his creativity, patience, skill, and remarkable attention to detail.

Darold was married to his first wife, JoAnn, from 1963 to 1980. Together, they raised their children, Steven Burt and Amanda Burt. In 1991, Darold married Lawona "Kay" Burt, who preceded him in death. Their years together were filled with companionship and love.

Darold is survived by his children, Steven Burt and Amanda Burt; his stepdaughter, Cherry Staff; and his granddaughter, Brittany Staff. He also leaves behind many relatives, dear friends, former colleagues, and fellow aviators who will forever remember his adventurous spirit, generous heart, and love of life.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Darold's life. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 5,

from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 6, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at the funeral home.

Darold lived life on his own terms—with courage, humor, curiosity, and a passion for adventure. Whether he was flying an aircraft, behind the wheel of a fast car, riding his Harley, skiing across the water, or perfecting his latest model train display, he embraced every moment. He leaves behind a legacy of service, laughter, determination, and generosity. His adventurous spirit, infectious smile, and unforgettable personality will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
