It is with a heavy heart that I have just recently found that my dear friend who introduced me to the Lord passed away last year. my name is Tarone Claybrook. Darrell and I both grew up in Los Angeles. We came to know each other as students in the engineering program at California State University Northridge. We further came to know each other as members of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. There I also met his wife in the birth of their first child. Darrell moved away to Texas separating us for decades. I came to know his mother and his family which gave me the ability to find him all the way in Texas. My condolences or to everyone family and friends however this late since his passing. her names being similar also kept us close in a unique fashion, but it was the Lord that riveted our relationship that I know one day or places back together once again in the Lord‘s presence. although I will miss his bottle he presents our last conversations are always about the Lord Jesus. I had to share with Darrell when it happened and so many decades of the Bible that he had given to me and how many hundreds of people that the Lord has given me his spirit to minister to those from California to Pennsylvania. Justice scripture has led us that we share in this joint joy of eternal life my friend has shared with every single person that I come in contact with to share the mighty name of Jesus. All because of a Bible he shared with four translations. I love you all I appreciate my friend his family and those of us who knew him so many decades ago when we were both 17 years old.

So very sorry to hear of Darryl's passing. We meet in college. He was a good man with so much knowledge and skills. I am so sorry for your loss. He will be sorely missed...I hope your memories of him will help bring some comfort. My sincere condolences to the family.

Thinking of you cousin Darryl and Family.

Reminiscing of our last conversation that we had about you enjoying your travels through Spain, learning Spanish and our connection of us being coffee connoisseurs. You are truly missed cousin❤️

Thank you for blessing us with your fun, loving, and caring soul. In honor of you cousin, I will make sure to make a stop at blue moon coffee to have a toast to your life and legacy cousin❤️

Love Always and Forever,

As I get ready to see my dad for the last time in a couple hours I can just think about how we would get together to go pick out our suits, touch up on each other fit’s, shave, and getting this kiddos ready. He was always sharp and ready to hop into a suits for a special event. Today will hit hard and I want this to be a celebration of life and not sorrows all day. He’s healthy, dancing around and singing at the top of his lungs right now. I know this weight is so heavy and I have been on go mode since his passing because that’s how I know to move from him. No work calls, emails, or energy towards work today dad. It’s all about you and I’m going to try and be as strong as I can be for the family. I miss my hero and the man who never turned his back on me no matter what. Rest easy my man I’ll take it from here. I’ll always love you.

Prayers to the family during this difficult time. Never forgotten he will always be in our hearts and prayers.🛐💕

Darryl,

Have worked with you for years and I was very sad to hear of your passing. You honestly were always a bright spot in a day filled with sometimes chaos in this industry. Whenever I saw you on the schedule for a notary, I knew that things would get taken care of. Heck even when things would get canceled you were always willing to help me in any way possible. You were one of the nicest human beings I have ever dealt with on a daily basis. My heart goes out to your family, you will be missed my friend!

Darryl was a phenomenal man!!! I had the opportunity to meet him through my dad, his best friend, Sill Davis. He was an amazing family man and man of God. He helped me through a few professional transitions. I am so grateful that he gave my Dad over 30 years of friendship. He supported him, prayed for him, encouraged and carried him.

Darryl, while I know it’s not the same, I will try to take care of poppa like you did.

With Love,
 Danielle

Darryl has been such a light to us at church. He took our son Tre under his wing in the media department and once Tre learned from Darryl he always wanted to stay in the back with the media team. Darryl was such an encourager to our son and us. Tre has often stated “Mr Darryl was the coolest guy I knew.” He always was positive and had the best laugh. We could always count on him to worship with us in the media booth. He will truly be missed and we are forever grateful to have known him. Our deepest condolences to the family.

What words does one say to the family of a man for whom “words of affirmation” were his undeniable gift? It was a gift that he shared willingly, unapologetically, and from which we all benefited on many occasions. Darryl was a light and an inspiration to all who crossed his path. He always had a kind word, encouraging advise, a huge smile, and a bigger heart. The culture and spirit of The Well Church were deeply influenced by his positive spirit and “can do” approach to any task. We will greatly miss him.

We offer our most sincere condolences to you--the Claiborne family. We know that Darryl left many, many memories to treasure. We pray that your hearts are comforted through those memories.

Darryl & Jennetta, a couple that loves Jesus Christ, joined our OCBF Marriage Ministry Small Group in 2011. Immediately, we knew they were a valuable asset to our group. Even when they became apart of the Well Church plant, the Claiborne’s were committed to the couple’s group for marriage enrichment. Darryl expressed gratitude for each couple in the group. He was an encourager and appreciative of the Biblical insight and different perspectives of the couples. As a deep thinker, he would add profound biblical observations as he lead a Bible study session.
Darryl always wanted to grow as a husband and father. He would find marriage conferences to attend to grow their marriage. Darryl was very humble and a genuinely transparent individual. His Spirit of gratefulness and thankfulness was endearing as he shared the Lord Jesus favor and blessing, over his life, family, ministry, and career. He was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather.
We remembered their marriage vow renewal. Darryl meticulously planned every detail of the celebratory reaffirmation of their commitment to one another, location, food, and music. The couples group knew Jennetta’s favorite color was yellow. Darryl and Jennetta took dance lessons, and he was very excited to dance with his bride.
We observed Darryl as a patient man willing to volunteer and be a blessing to others. We will certainly miss his great sense of humor, kindness, tender heart and Godly attitude with a smile.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Darryl was such a positive influence to everyone he encountered. So encouraging and so enthusiastic. He truly embodied what it meant to be the light. Benjamin and I were blessed to build a relationship with Darryl and we are honored to have known him. Our deepest condolences to you, Jennetta and family. We are praying for you.

Noel and I started attending The Well when the church was just one year old. Darryl was one of the first people we met. In the early years he oversaw the budget (in addition to the MANY other hats he wore). I remember him reporting on the finances at one of the first member meetings; I was struck by his thoughtfulness and focus on fiscal stewardship. He was a faithful steward of all God entrusted to him.

I was equally struck by Darryl’s servant leadership. He was always ready and willing to serve with wisdom, excellence, and humility, never needing to take credit or be in front.

Darryl was so kind and tender-hearted. He had a wonderful way of making people feel seen and heard and important.

He was also a constant support, always showing up for The Well and The Specs Movement in whatever capacity. I remember when he showed up at Specs Movement event having just finished a hot yoga class!

Darryl was generous in sharing his time and his expertise. He offered to help me with a variety of HR questions and issues regarding my business on multiple occasions, and when he gave advice it was always incredibly insightful, wise, and on point. He was unassuming in the breadth and depth of his intellectual astuteness.

Darryl, your presence will be sorely missed by your family at The Well. You occupied a space that was special and uniquely you that no one can fill. We all await the day we are reunited with you at the feasting table where pain and sorrow will have no place. Thanks for the man you were and the legacy you left.

We will always remember Darryl's welcoming spirit, contagious laugh and funny remarks everytime we saw him at The Well Church. We are so sad to hear of his passing but we are certain that he has met his Father and Savior face to face! We love you Jeannetta and will be praying for you. Let us know if there is anything we can do.

I have met many pastors, prophets and preachers in my life, but the most Christ like person I’ve ever come across was Darryl. Like David, Darryl was a man after God’s own heart. Thank you, Darryl for the example you’ve given me. I will never forget it or you as long as I live.

My deepest condolences to your family. Darryl was a colleague at Frito-Lay for many years. Darryl was the person I went to for sage advice and a shoulder to cry on. Most times, however, I sought out Darryl for a good laugh; he would try to find humor and grace in every situation. I'm grateful that our lives crossed paths and I'm a better person for having known him. Sending prayers of strength and love to the family. Tina Bigalke

To the Claiborne Family,

Darryl will always have a special place in my heart. He gave me opportunities to grow, provided much guidance, taught valuable lessons and most importantly, was a mentor and friend during the several years that I worked with him and for him at Frito-Lay! Even after he left the corporate HR department, I would still think of him on his birthday and remember the experiences we shared and how he exhibited a calm and positive leadership presence even in the difficult times. I hope that all your memories get you through this difficult time of loss. He was much too young to be leaving you all, yet I am sure that God called him home because his grace and gentle hand would be needed amongst the angels. I know, without a doubt, that he will be watching over each of you and sending love from his heavenly home.

Peace be with you all,
Betsy Schroeder

What a blessing it was to share this past Resurrection Sunday with the family. Life is to live , love & laugh often. Memories to cherish.

This is October 2021. You came to visit, comfort and support me in my time of grief. Thank you so, so very much.

Darryl and I shared the same name. My middle name is Daryl with 1 r. A few years ago Darryl and I met for lunch. We had a good conversation on various topics. On that occasion and other times at the OCBF Couples group it was a pleasure talking with Darryl. Beverly and I are praying for Jennetta and the family.

Sending our Prayers, Love and Condolences to the family. Keep the Great memories at Heart. God Bless you.

                                             Steven & Annette Parker

Darryl is everyone’s biggest cheerleader! His positivity and encouragement exuded throughout his spirit with all that he did. From managing tech to folding baby clothes for the garage sale. I am forever grateful fir the time I had with him.

We had the privilege to fellowship with Darryl and Jennetta for several years in our Couples Bible Study group. Darryl was always warm, caring, encouraging and transparent. He enjoyed the fellowship of fellow believers. This spirit extended beyond the group. Oftentimes when seeing him at the gym in the mornings, he took time to ask about how specific things were going in your life. A few years back, when our son had surgery in Houston, he and Jennetta came to visit and encourage him while he recovered. It was great to see him and Jennetta in recent weeks. We continue to pray that Jennetta and her family feel the love and comfort of God during this time.

Yours in Christ,
The Foxes (Cliff, Michelle and Collin)

When we arrived at The Well, Darryl was one of the members who welcomed us with open arms. He had a servant’s heart & was always hard at work serving our church family in whatever place was needed. He had infectious joy- what a great laugh he had! We really wish we had gotten more time to know him better. We had great respect for him! Much love to all the family- we are praying for you all.

Darryl -
Your light shined so bright it gave the rest of us a little extra. I was just getting to know you but I knew 3 things without a doubt:
1) You loved the Lord
2) You adored your family
3) You made others better

Now you're home. I know you're cracking jokes in heaven already and I'll see you again. I'm grateful for the time we had together.

Hey Papa, I wasn’t ready for you to be gone. I wish there was more things we could’ve talked about but even though I wasn’t ready I know you were. It’s peaceful now knowing that you’re pain free. I miss your smile and your voice mostly. You laugh was so powerful I could hear it through a full audience. On the darkest days your smile could bring the sun back. You were one of my biggest supporters. Papa you always made sure to be there at almost every event huge or not. You’d always be right there outside the door for my theatre shows with the most beautiful huge smile and flowers to match. It didn’t matter if I did a horrible job at something or did something bad, you’d be right there with that smile to help me an let me know I was strong enough to get back up. I admire most how you loved you family and friends passionately and fearlessly. You would always try to be the best version of yourself especially for me and my siblings. It means the world to us. You taught us so much. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Papa, Thank you for 21 years of constant guidance and love. I plan to still make you proud Papa. I can’t wait to see that smile again.

Love you little princess,
Kylah

Hey Papa,

I know you’re in a great place in heaven. I wish I could’ve spent more time with you but all I can say is thank you for being the best grandfather and man to me. You made me understand when I was young that I couldn’t get everything I wanted when I didn’t get my way or having anger issues. You made me the man I am today and having those small talks were the best. They could be about anything and you always made it fun. I’m grateful to have your name. Thank you so much. There’s not one game, meet or event I can think of you not being there for me and I’m thankful for that. I love you Papa with everything I have. I wish I wasn’t writing this letter because like I said I wish we had more time but no matter what happens I know you’re in a great place. Papa I love you. I will remember and cherish the memories and time we had together. Thank you for being my grandfather .

I love you Papa,
Darryl III

To Papa,

I going to miss you picking me up on Friday from Gymnastic, having lunch with me at school, taking me to the trampoline park. Getting me donuts on Saturday morning and movie night and beating you in card games. Most of all just spending time with you.

Love,
Dylan

Papa,

It is sad that you are no longer here with us but also a little happy that you are with God and have no more pain. I will miss you forever and I’m very thankful that you helped shaped me into the man I am now and will become, and very thankful to the bottom of my heart that helped me find my way to God. Thank you for always being for me at all my dive meets and sport meets and being a great supporter. I will love you forever, cherish all the memories we have made together and remember you as the best grandfather you were to me. Thank you for everything.

Rest well Papa!

We had the opportunity to fellowship with Darryl and Jennetta over the years as part of our couples small group. We recall how welcoming, transparent and encouraging Darryl was as a brother in Christ. Thankfully we were able to see him and Jennetta during our recent trip to Dallas.

We call upon the Lord during this time of loss and sorrow. Special prayers to Jennetta and the Claiborne family. May you feel God's comfort and love at this time and each day.

Hello Jeantta,
I don't know if you remember me, I'm Kim Hunter one of your classmates from Washington High. I remember your pretty face and I remember Darryl also. You two were both quiet kids and I if my memories serve me right and you were friends with my friend Suzette Davis. Jeanette, I'm sending my condolences to you and your family. Darryl was one of the nicest guys at Washington. May his memory return to Jehovah.

God smiled upon me the day you became my brother-in-law. A heart of gold stopped beating, two shinny eyes is at rest, it proves that God only needs the best. But you didn’t go alone, for a part of me went with you. Thanks for all the wonderful memories and fun times we shared, I will miss your vibrant smile, your soft gentle voice, our daily inspirational texts. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure, forever in my heart.
                                                       Love your sister-in-law,
                                                          Renate

To my Big Bro.,
Thanks for sharing the past fifty-two years with me. You are the perfect example of a BIG BRO. The love and positivity you bring is like no other. Your hugs are powerful. I will always cherish the great times we had together. Until we meet again., Rest Easy Big Bro.
 Love Always,
 Ramon

To my sweet Uncle Darryl,
It pains me to see you go but I find peace in the experience that there was never a dull moment when you came around. Your pure energy always filled the room, and everyone around couldn’t help but to smile. You always put a smile on my face, and I never saw you without a smile on yours. That inspired me to always walk with my head held high and embrace the little yet not so little things in life. When I think about you, I think about how your laugh always made me laugh. I enjoyed all of our shopping ventures to Banana Republic, Starbucks runs, road trips, vacation visits, and long conversations about the “Black List” whenever you came to visit in California. You always told me how proud you were of me and how much you loved me. As I continue Life’s journey, you live in my heart forever and I will cherish all the memories we made together. LOVE is LIFE (Living On Valued Energy is Love In Full Effect)! Thank you for showing me that and until we meet again someday, I will love you forever.
Love always,
Leilah

A Letter to My Son
A Mothers love
As I held you and rocked you all those years ago, you heard my heart from inside and immediately touched my soul. A beautiful bond we shared, a promise I made to always protect you. My joy in life was teaching you how to love and watching you grow. From the first breath you took to when God took my hand, he must have had a reason, even if I did not understand I know this is not what we had planned. You loved your mama and I love you too. You are in a better place with the Heavenly Father watching over you. I will miss you so much. I will miss your sweet smile. You had a heart of gold and I will cherish the fun times we had. My love for you will be my strength as I continue with life’s journey. May you rest with God until we meet again at the Heaven’s gates.

Love Mom

Darryl,

Dear cousin,

It has always been a pleasure knowing you! Your calm smile has always been a comfort to me.
Just knowing you were in our family allowed me to see that my future could be whatever I wanted it to be. Thank you for the great example you set for your family and others. May God continue to bless you on your journey, and may God continue to comfort those who loved you that are hurting because you are gone physically. Only through prayer can the pain of losing someone you love become bearable. You will never be forgotten; you are in the hearts of all that had the pleasure to know you!

May God continue to bless us all!

Love Hasaan

My loving, honorable, and Godly cousin, Darryl,

May your soul rest in peace. Thank you for being the most positive example of man that I’ve been blessed to have in my life. Since I can't bring you back to life, I pray and hope you are in a better place. There are not enough words in this world for me to explain what you’ve meant to me. Your love, support and advice has helped me more than you’ll ever could have known. I trusted your advice without ever doubting it was best because you were living proof that your opinion and advice was solid. Now I’ll have to be thankful for the time God gave me with you and trust you planted in me all that I’ll need to continue to travel in this life. May your soul rest in peace, cousin.

Love your lil-cousin

Hope

You guys know that I’m always a phone call away.

Losing someone you love is never easy and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Darryl and I were classmates at George Washington High. We continued our friendship at Cal State University Northridge where we both majored in Engineering. There he did something phenomenal. Darryl graduated in four years with a bachelor's degree in Engineering. Unheard-of, back then it took pretty close to 5 years to get an engineering degree. Rest well my fellow General and Matador 🙏🏿😥

Jennetta,

My wife Renee and I wanted to offer our sincere condolences on the lost of Darryl for you and your family.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with and learning from Darryl during my 25 years at Frito-Lay. We both grew up in Los Angeles and I had the pleasure of follow in his footsteps leading Distribution at the Modesto site.

Recently, Renee and talked about having dinner with both of you at your home in the Dallas area. A memory we have always cherished. I always recall Darryl’s love for God, his family and friends.

Darryl’s will be missed, but always remembered as a life well lived from a gentle sole.

Sweetie, I miss you already. Our morning talks before I leave for work. Watching you study the Word, calling me to make sure I have lunch or just letting me know that you are doing something for one of the grandkids. It was just a few weeks ago that I was so cold at work that you went to 5 different stores to find a heater for me. That is who you were…you had a servants heart. I‘ll always love you for continuously working on us having a Godly relationship. We’ll be together again one day (Praising the Lord all day long) so it’s not goodbye, just I’ll see you later. I know you are peace now. Love Jaa

My Love, We've been together our entire adult lives... How do I live without you? Thank you for loving me and being a man who chose God and lived a life that is an example to our son and grandchildren. I wish we could have had more time together to take those last 4 trips we talked about( at least). We weren't finished with our story.
Rest Sweetie.

Condolences to the family of our fallen General Class of 77.💔

To the Claybourne family my condolences to you and your loved ones.
I worked with Darryl at Frito-Lay/PepsiCo. I can still hear his laugh, him stopping by my office to say good morning. I had the privilege of making his granddaughter birthday fashion cake. I will always remember his smile and kindness. R.I.P Darryl

I am so sorry to hear of Darryl’s passing. We were colleagues at PepsoCo. I worked in NY and although we did not interact often, when I saw him he always greeted me with a smile and an authentic hug and hello. He could change your day with his positivity. My condolences to his family . The world needs more wonderful and just nice people like Darryl.

“Darryl, my beloved HERO… All that I am and ever hope to be in this life - started when you told me as a little kid that I could achieve all that I could imagine. You taught me the most important lesson I ever learned from anyone - and that was to BELIEVE in myself with God’s Best for me and I THANK YOU for being my GREATEST EXAMPLE of BLACK EXCELLENCE! You’re the G.O.A.T.!!! I love you, infinitely.” 😢💔❤️‍🩹🙏🏾😇🥂

Cheers to YOU, forever BIG CUZZO!!!
Cousin Tony Magee

To Jeannetta and the Claiborne Family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have known Darryl for well over 30 years. For years he was a mentor to me and we have had some great conversations. His smile and laugh was contagious. I have been to your home where he was a gracious host. Spent several New Year Day with you over a mutual friend's home. And greatly admired your relationship and the wonderful pleasure of seeing the photos of your renewal ceremony in Hawaii. I hope you are comforted knowing Darryl has transitioned to the arms of our Savior. May he RIP.

Jennetta - Darryl remains a very bright light in our lives. His quick wit, the way he laughed with his entire body, and the way he loved to share his brand of wisdom as though it were a secret will live with us always. We will continue to lift you and your family in prayer during this season, and years to come.
Blessings,
-Bill and Brenda Dawkins and Family

Jennetta, Darryl and you impacted so many of us. His legacy lives on - through you, Darryl Jr, his grandchildren, and all of us whose lives he touched. Love, Darian and Lori
