He will be lovingly remembered as a faithful husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and fishing buddy. David was known by all for boundless humor and an unwavering positive attitude. His lifelong passions included “his” Texas Rangers, searching for the one that got away in the little-known stock tank and the mastery of crossword puzzles.
He was born on January 8, 1947, in Knoxville, TN, to Leonard and Helen Fields. His family moved to Dallas in 1958 and he soon met his wife, Donna, at Dan D. Rogers Elementary. David graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, TX, in 1965, and graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Business. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
David was a hard worker and dedicated most of his career to the family automotive business, Woodard Auto Repair. He was also able to follow his father’s footsteps to the insurance sales business and later followed his dreams to make detailed bass fishing maps for many Texas lakes.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Leonard Fields and brother, Michael Fields.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Donna Woodard Fields; his children, Tiffany Meier and husband, Stephen; Lisa Cheek and husband, Jamie; Jeffrey Fields and wife, Taylor; his twin brother Donald Fields and sister, Linda Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He was often surrounded by many sweet grandchildren: Lawson Cheek, Matthew Meier, Jonathan Meier, Henry Cheek, Owen Cheek, Mabel Fields and Maude Fields.
