David Angus Scott Jr.

December 15, 1924May 26, 2019

David (Dave) Angus Scott Jr. was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 15, 1924 to D. Angus Scott Sr. and Arvilla (“Coffeyville Dan”) Kavanaugh. He passed away on May 26, 2019 surrounded by family.

In his youth Dave was an avid Cardinals baseball fan (and a proud card-carrying member of the “Knot Hole” gang), and he was a track star in high school. As his children were delighted to learn, he also participated in a few exciting adolescent capers. Upon high school graduation he attended Cornell University until he left to enlist in the Marines during WWII. After completing his service, he attended Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri where he met the love of his life on the steps of the Presbyterian Church. After graduation from Westminster, he then attended Oklahoma State and received his Masters. He had a long career in electronic engineering, with the last 35 years spent with the company that became Raytheon. A very enjoyable part of Dave’s career was spent in Alice Springs, Australia where he made lifelong friendships and explored much of the Outback as a member of the 4-Wheel Drive club.

Loving husband and father, Dave was very active in Scouts, and he served at Ridgeview Presbyterian Church in Dallas as an elder (as well as leading a youth fellowship group and teaching an adult Sunday school class). He is fondly remembered by his children for his guidance with their science fair projects and for providing rich experiences that became lifelong memories. His strong sense of integrity and always doing the right thing will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Kavanaugh Scott, and son Jeffrey Wood Scott. He is survived by his wife of almost 69 years Shirley Wood Scott, daughter Karen Sue Scott Moore, son David Angus Scott III and wife Mary Ellen, son Gregory Brian Scott and wife Jennifer. Grandchildren include David Angus Scott IV, Teruwah Hallel Scott Row, Jeremy Ryan Scott, and Jason Christopher Scott.

Memorials in honor of David Angus Scott, Jr. may be given to Faith Presbyterian Hospice, Lighthouse of the Blind or Alzheimer's Association.
