

David Ernest Smartt, 53, of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born in Denison, TX to Claude and Meredith Smartt. He grew up in Sherman, TX until the start of high school where his family moved to Ardmore, Oklahoma. He graduated with Honors from Ardmore High School and went on to Boston College where he doubled majored in Finance and Marketing. He moved to Dallas after graduation in 1993. After working in the banking world, he decided to start his own firm, Venquest Capital Partners, with his college roommate and best friend, Paul Bureau, in 2000 which has continued to thrive.
David was deeply committed to his family. He was a loving husband, father, son and brother and always placed his loved ones at the center of his life. He is survived by Kara Smartt, his loving wife of 22 years; his children, Julia, Clifton and Drew Smartt; his parents, Meredith and Claude Smartt; his sisters, Becky Powell and husband Jim and Rachel Smartt; his brothers, John Smartt and wife Shelli and Robert Smartt; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Julia and Arnold Wharton; his two brothers-in-law, Alan Wharton, David Wharton and wife Catherine; and many nieces and nephews.
When David wasn’t working or going to the MANY activities of his children, he loved spending time with family and friends at his ranches. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting, working on projects, listening to music on the porch, and riding around looking at the many, many trees.
David’s calm, loyal, kind and witty personality along with his positive spirit and devotion to family and friends made him loved by everyone. He was a source of joy and hope and will be missed everyday, but his memory will forever inspire those he left behind.
A memorial service for David will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Park Cities Presbyterian Church, 4124 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX 75219.
