Dayton Easton Callahan was born in Quitman, Wood County Texas on October 1, 1929 to loving parents Leon Gilbert “Jinks” Callahan and Ethel Josephine Castleberry Callahan. Dayton was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Alice Jane Holloway Callahan, his parents, brothers: Billie Don, Carroll Delano- who died in childhood, sisters-Allie Mozelle Violet, Madeline Virginia Faye Voyles, Mary Carolyn Rasberry. Dayton and Jane were married in Rockwall, Texas on December 12, 1953 and lived in Dallas until May 1955 when they moved to 1735 Crestridge Drive in Mesquite, Texas. Dayton worked at Collins Radio Corp. which was later acquired by Rockwell International from 1953 until 1980. He then joined Dallas Precious Metal Plating, Inc. and became a co-owner and Vice President along with Richard C. Stertz, President of that business until he retired in 1992. When Dayton retired, he spent much time at his lake cabins on Lake Fork near Emory, Texas. His hobbies were his grandkids, fishing, building and remodeling, reading, genealogy and local sports. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Texas Longhorns fan. He celebrated his 90th birthday with friends and family and church members just days before his actual birthday of October 1, 2019. After complaining of not feeling well, just days later, he was diagnosed with lung cancer. After putting up a short, but mighty struggle against the disease, he made a sudden turn for the worse and passed away the morning of Saturday, November 16th at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was a great father and family member and will certainly be by us all. Survivors include his three children: Son: Hon. Rickey Don Callahan, former Dallas City Councilman, of Dallas, Daughters: Sherry Lynn Callahan Ferguson of Mesquite, Texas, Jana Donise Callahan Hubacek (Andrew) of Mesquite.
