Monday, July 28, 1941, a baby boy was gifted to the parentage of the late Reagan & the late Esia Bell Jones. He was later united with his father and stepmom, the late Loreanzo & the late Effie Malray.
George received his formal education from Homer Colored Schools in Homer Louisiana, where he began developing the strong character, work ethic, and faith that would define his life.
At an early age, George accepted Christ and began a lifelong journey of service to the Lord. He worshipped at Salem C.M.E. Church, and later joined Seven-Star Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas where he was ordained as a Deacon. He later served at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, and in 1986 united with Paradise Missionary Baptist Church. There he faithfully served as Co-Chairman of the Deacon Board, Brotherhood President, Sunday School teacher, church bus driver, mentor, convention speaker, and in many other capacities.
On a beautiful sunny day in the heart of West Dallas, George married the love of his life, Annie L. Reed on July 3, 1965. Together they attended concerts and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. George especially looked forward to the love Annie poured into the little things. Every birthday, he eagerly anticipated her homemade sweets, with her pineapple upside-down cake or layered pineapple cake holding a special place in his heart. He also loved listening to Annie sing, finding comfort and joy in her beautiful voice. For more than six decades they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and unconditional love.
George was the proud father of his first child and only daughter, James Loretta Glenn. George and Annie were blessed with three boys, Charles Gable, Marcus Lastance and George Alarick Jones. Although their hands were full, together they raised their children and celebrated the blessings of grandchildren and generations to follow.
George dedicated over 30 years to the trucking industry and was employed by Redball Freight, Mistletoe Express Trucking, and retired from ANR Freight after 30 years. He couldn’t stay retired for long and returned to the big rig to drive for the Dallas Postal Services and Watson Escavaters.
Around his hometown, many affectionately knew him as 'Pine.' He loved horseback riding and playing dominoes. George had a big giving heart. He would help anyone in any way he could.
George loved listening to gospel music and had a special place in his heart for quartet. His playlist consisted of the Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Canton Spirituals, The Pilgrim Jubilees, Sam Cooke, classics from Al Green, and The Five Blind Boys. His favorite gospel song was Can’t Run, Can’t Hide by his favorite quartet group, Lee Williams and the Gospel QC’s.
If you really knew George, then you knew he had daily office hours in which he should not be disturbed. He was not available during the 10 o’clock hour due to the television show, The Price is Right, 4 o’clock hour as Judge Judy was on and at 6:30 as he would watch Wheel of Fortune. Unless it was an emergency, he would request a call back.
