Delfino was a kind, generous and loving family man. He always had a smile on his face, would tell jokes and act silly to bring happiness into the lives of others. He was very giving and supportive of others and often helped the less fortunate. He always went above and beyond in all that he did.
Delfino was raised in the Los Altos barrio of Dallas and came from modest means. In 1964 he graduated from Crozier Tech High School and was drafted into the military. He served his country from 1966-1968 in the U.S. Army Infantry, with the rank Specialist Fourth Class, C Company, 2nd Battalion / 1st Infantry, 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1967, narrowly escaping death and was guided home safely to begin his family.
Delfino married the love of his life Olga Valdez on August 12, 1972, and they were blessed with a daughter and son. He had great love for his family and vowed to provide them with more than he had growing up. He worked hard to give his children every opportunity to succeed in their dreams.
His grandchildren were the lights of his life. He supported them the same way he supported his children. Delfino was a kid at heart, always playing and acting silly with them while teaching and educating in the things that matter in life.
Delfino worked for SW Bell / AT&T for 30 years, retiring in 2002. In retirement he was an active member of DMAHL, the Dallas Mexican American Historical League, and spearheaded the Los Viejos del Barrio breakfast group. He served as Commander of the American Legion Post #275 and organized and participated in the Dallas Veterans Day Parade for several years.
Delfino was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Victoria and sister Olga Herrera. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Olga, son Greg (Claudia), daughter Stephanie, and grandchildren Christopher, Ramses, Danielle, Evelyn and Maddox, brothers Bruno and Richard (Angie), sisters Lola (Dora) Zendejas (Joe) and Christine.
