Delores Sylvia (Dee) Stevens Atkinson, age 89, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022 in Dallas, Texas from a brief battle with kidney disease. The second youngest of eight children, she was born on July 2, 1932 to the late Orville and Leoma Stevens in Montgomery County, Indiana. Raised in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, she graduated from Shadeland High School.
Always a fan of warmer climates, Dee called Ft. Lauderdale, Florida home for many years where she worked in various administrative roles with such companies as Blockbuster Entertainment, Bonnet House, Auto Nation, Republic Industries, Swisher Hygiene and Pivotal Fitness.
In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, traveling, reading and keeping physically fit well into her later years. At the age of 82 she rappelled down 30 floors in a fund-raising event for Gilda's Club, South Florida, raising more money than any other competitor. Dee also enjoyed sporting events, having attended several Super Bowls, World Series Games and Stanley Cup Finals.
She is preceded in death by her son, Timothy Atkinson, formerly of Dallas, Texas. "Grandee", as she was known to her grandchildren, is survived by: son, Steve Atkinson of Cheraw, South Carolina; daughter, Paige Atkinson of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Carrie Atkinson of Dallas, Texas; granddaughter, Deena Atkinson of Glendora, California; grandson, Brendan Atkinson of Atlanta, Georgia; granddaughter, Leah Atkinson of Denver, Colorado; and great granddaughter, Peyton Horsch of Denver, Colorado.
