

Delton "Del" R. Groothuis passed away October 15, 2010. He was born July 20, 1925, in Mt, Vernon, IL, the seventh of eight children of George and Eugia Groothuis. Del was married to Wanda Hester on July 22, 1945. He is survived by Wanda, their daughter, Lisa and their granddaughter, Valeria, and several nieces and nephews.
He served in Patton's Third Army (87th Division) and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He retired as Traffic Manager of Chemtech Industries in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1989.
He was an active member of Niedringhaus United Church in Granite City, IL for many years before moving to the Dallas area to be near his daughter and granddaughter. He was appointed by Illinois Governor Edgar as a Commissioner of the Tri-City Port Authority, was a board member of the Tri-City Salvation Army, Republican Party Chairman of Madison County, IL, and spearheaded the AARP program preparing tax returns for seniors.
Since moving to Dallas, he has been an active member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
