Dexter LeRoy Thomas was born February 27, 1958, the first-born child of Samuel and Gracie Thomas. A Dallas native, he was a 1976 graduate of Skyline High School. He attended the University of Texas at Arlington and received his degree in business administration. It was during his college years that he met his former wife, Debra Thomas and in 1994, their prayers were answered with the birth of their son, Brandon Chase.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Dexter pursued a career in insurance sales and very quickly advanced through the ranks toward management and full-service financial planning. Eventually, he struck out on his own as an independent broker opening Dexter Thomas Financial Services in 1995 and became very accomplished.

A committed Christian, Dexter was an active member of Carver Heights Missionary Baptist Church before joining Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in 1985. There he served as a leader in a variety of roles.

Throughout the metroplex and beyond, Dexter was well known, well respected and well loved.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, his father and brother, Dexter is survived by the pride of his life, his son, Chase; his mother, Mrs. Gracie Thomas, his sister, Debbie, his sister-in-law, Carolyn; nieces: Nicole, Sydney and Shelby, and his nephew, Drake. Other cherished survivors include Joseph Jordan (Christina), Kreston Plouche, his grandniece, Tailyn and grand nephews, Nicholas and Tahj, his aunt, Jeraldine Dennis, his uncle, Thomas Freeney and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11am, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, 1808 W. Camp Wisdom Road, Dallas, TX.

I didnt know Dexter well, but Sunday Morning Pew Conversations were always welcomed with a Smile! Visions of Dexter with that big smile pop up in my mind occasionally! That is my memory of him! I pray for his family and that his Soul is at peace!

I am so sorry to hear about this. I worked in the same building with Mr. Thomas in Addison, TX over the last year. I did not know him well, but he would always greet me and was so respectful to fellow black men and women. It was always a great feeling to see him; a successful black man helping so many people, especially black people. You will be missed dearly sir.

My heart is broken for the Thomas family. Dexter, I know your soul is at peace now. You carried the weight of so many on your shoulders. Just know You did an amazing job! My life will forever be changed because of you. Thank You for all the times you prayed with me. Because of you I rededicated my life to God! I was blessed to have shared time with you and your family. You had a very big heart when it came to others and you touched so many. It’s now your turn to be free! Rest In Peace my friend. I’ll always have love for you in my heart. May God continue to give comfort to your family and friends.

My words can not fully express the sorrow I feel after learning about the death of your beloved.
It is not how long a man lives, but how deep that life is in your pain and sorrow remember that he was a great man.

We shared classes in high school and our friendship continued through our years at OCBF.
Dexter never changed, always smiling and big hugs.
So many memories.
So little time here.
Forever with Our Savior.
Many prayers for his loving family,
