Don Burke Broome

Don was many things to many people. He was a husband, a father, a brother, a friend, he was Donnie, he was St. Broome, he was Mr. Wonderful and the most amazing grandfather a kid could ask for. You could often find him with his grandchildren attending tea parties, playing board games and yes, wearing as much jewelry as his grandkids could put on him.

Don made us laugh. He was always known for his goofy and corny jokes - we couldn’t get enough and looked forward to the next. He loved dancing “the Push” with his wife Rosemary, enjoyed a round or two of golf with fellow sub-par golfers and was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 799. He was immensely proud of hosting his fraternity’s Champagne Party for over 50 years and was always So Happy It was Thursday!

Don attended Adamson High School where he was a cheerleader and was President of the Bonehead Club, which we know validated his endless ability to make people laugh. He was a graduate of UNT, earning both an undergraduate and Master’s degree in Business. He served four years in the Army Reserves and was also a proud member of Theta Chi fraternity, with brothers who have remained steadfast friends for over fifty years.

He worked the majority of his business life in commercial real estate for such companies as Tarver & Epps, Hank Dickerson and The Staubach Company.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosemary Piccola Broome of Dallas; his daughter, Carren (husband Mark) Soules, with their three children Claire, Grant and Jack of Austin, Texas; his son David (wife Jolea) Broome, with their three children Dominic, Jillian and Deacon of Allen, Texas and his sister, Vicki Broome Spry of Frisco, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Paul Broome and father, Lee Broome. He is also survived by an enormous extended loving family.

The Broome family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Silverado-Plano for their kindness, friendship and expert care for Don, whom they affectionately called “Papa.”
