Donald L. Ashton, 71, of Mesquite, Texas, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at home. His funeral will be held Monday, July 16, at 10am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mesquite. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 15th, from 2-5pm at Laureland Funeral Home in Dallas.
Don was born September 14, 1946, in Malad, Idaho, the son of Warren Ashton and Birdie Bair Ashton. He attended Malad schools, graduating from high school in 1965. He then served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Germany.
On his return from Germany, he attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and received a degree in Psychology. He then earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Don was employed for several years by Evans & Southerland and Eaton-Kenway in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a technical writer and computer engineer.
Don married Elizabeth (Betty) Cannon on December 16th, 1993, in the Dallas Texas Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and moved to Texas at that time. Betty survives. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Warren and Kenneth.
Don loved the outdoors, and was an avid runner, hiker and backpacker.
