

Donna Kay Prater was a radiant soul, born on December 11, 1955, in the heart of Dallas, Texas. With a heart as warm as the Texas sun, she filled the lives of her family and friends with endless love and joy. On March 19, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, Donna embarked on her next journey after a brief illness, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories and unspoken affection that will forever linger in the hearts of those who adored her most.
From her earliest days alongside her dear sister Shirley, Donna's presence brought light and laughter into every corner of their home. Graduating from W.W. Samuell High School in 1974, Donna soon found her soulmate in Robert Prater, and together they wove a tapestry of love that would endure a lifetime.
Through the years, Donna's life blossomed with moments of pure tenderness and care. Her career journey was a testament to her nurturing spirit, from her days as an automobile underwriter at Traveler’s Insurance Company, to her role as a medical underwriter at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Even in her part-time stint at Walmart, Donna's kindness knew no bounds. Yet, it was during her enchanting 16-year tenure at Grove Hill Funeral Home that she truly found her calling, guiding grieving families with a touch of grace and compassion.
Beyond her professional accomplishments lay Donna's true treasure—her family. With each passing year, she lovingly crafted memories, sprinkled with her culinary magic. Whether it was her legendary ham dip, fluffy club crackers, or the irresistible sweetness of her pudding pie cake, Donna's creations were more than just food; they were love made edible.
Donna joined in eternal rest by her parents, Roland “Red” and Eleanor Francis Rowan, her sister Shirley Jo King, and brother-in-law Joe River King, Donna's legacy of love lives on through those she held dear. Survived by her devoted husband Robert Prater, her daughter Holly Nicole Prater and partner Tezz Potter of Rowlett, TX, her son Gabriel Prater and wife Crystal, her grandchildren Caleb Prater, Grace Prater, Mariah Potter, Carter Potter, and Ryder Prater, her niece Angela Kay Rowan of Rowlett, TX, her nephew Jake King and wife Melady of Canton, TX, great nieces Kyleigh King of Canton, TX, and Dyiamond Rowan of Rowlett, TX, her best friend Gail Higginbotham and husband Larry, and a host of other beloved family members and friends, Donna's legacy will forever live in all of our hearts.
Though Donna may have bid farewell to this world, her essence remains woven into the fabric of countless lives, a testament to the power of love and the enduring sweetness of her spirit.
