Growing up in Oradell, N.J., she received a varsity letter in softball in junior high, several choir music awards in high school, and held jobs in a local bakery, in Packard-Bamberger department store, and as a telephone operator. In June of 1951, she met the love of her life on a New Jersey beach, S/Sgt. J.D. Batteas, who was at that time stationed at McGuire Air Force Base. The couple were soon wed in Hackensack, N.J. on November 4, 1951.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2017. During their 65 years of marriage, she lived in various cities in New Jersey, New York and Texas, finally settling in Carrollton in 1980.
Her favorite pastime was being a dedicated wife and mother. She took great pleasure in her involvement with church choir and later as a bible study instructor at Saint Monica Catholic Church. She also enjoyed shopping, watching baseball and football, and traveling with her husband to visit all areas of this wonderful country. Her sweetness and polite demeanor will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her four children, William, Frank, Rose, and James along with their spouses, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren as well as two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
