

Dorothy Campbell, 91, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225. Dr. Jack Martin will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will welcome visitors at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Dorothy Campbell was born in Dallas on August 14, 1924 to Lorena Nash Campbell and Raymond Campbell. She was the granddaughter of Dallas County pioneers and a descendant of Texas pioneers. As a child she attended First Baptist Church of Dallas where Dr. George W. Truett baptized her. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1941. She studied at North Texas Agricultural College, now the University of Texas at Arlington. Later she attended Chicago’s Moody Bible Institute and graduated from Baylor University in 1948.
In 1948 she went to work in Houston for petroleum engineer Robert B. Mitchell in the oil and gas business. As a Houston resident for 61 years, “Dot” was an early and enthusiastic fan of the Astros, a devoted patron of the Houston Grand Opera, Theater Under the Stars and the Alley Theater. She travelled extensively. She was a longtime member of Houston’s Second Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Later she was a faithful member of Houston’s Berachah Church where she became a lifelong supporter of Christian missionary work around the world.
For many years, Dorothy and her sister, Mary Anne Barker, lived and travelled together between their homes in Houston and Abilene. In 2010, she and her sister returned to Dallas to live with her niece, Suzanne Roberts. Dorothy was a member of numerous organizations including TIPRO, the Houston Petroleum Club, the Park City Club, the Baylor Heritage Club, Park Cities Baptist Church and its Mary/Martha Sunday School Class, Variety Book Club, and the North Dallas High School Alumni Club. Family and friends will remember her for her red hair, generous and adventurous spirit, and devotion to them throughout her long life.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Anne Campbell Barker; nieces and nephews, Suzanne Barker Roberts of Dallas; William C. Barker and his wife Pamela Barker of Tempe, Arizona; Raymond Campbell, III and his wife Sarah Campbell of Arlington; Laura Campbell Bolding and her husband Bill W. Bolding of Dallas; and Elizabeth Barker Willis and her husband Doyle Willis, Jr. of Fort Worth; a number of great-nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Raymond Campbell, Jr.; her nephew, Barry Barker; and her great-nephew, John Michael Roberts.
