Dorothy P. Edgar went to be with her Lord and Saviour on September 5 at the age of 86. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 9, 1924, the eldest of the three daughers of Lewis and Macon Perkinson, whom she revered. She accepted Jesus as her saviour at the age of 12, and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church. Dorothy graduated in 1948 from Howard College, now Samford University, in Birmingham. It was there that she met the love of her life, Deric Edgar, a star basketball player, who passed away September 20, 2008. They married on June 21, 1946. Soon afterward they moved to Dallas. They joined the First Baptist Church, where—for 50 years-- Dorothy played the piano and helped with the four-year-olds in the preschool Sunday School department. First Baptist was where Dorothy and Deric made precious friendships that lasted a lifetime. Dorothy spent the 1950s and 1960s as a full-time wife, and mother of five daughters. When her children were older, she helped Deric in his retail clothing business. In the 1980s and 1990s she worked at registration at SMU. She is survived by daughter Carol Edgar King and her husband, Richard King, of San Francisco; daughters Sally, Nancy, Laura and Jenni Edgar; granddaughters Alison Melville of Los Angeles and Christen Colden. Also surviving is her sister, Margie Wallace, of Birmingham. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5--7 p.m, and a memorial service will be held Thursday at 12 noon in the Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Highway . Private interment in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
