Funeral services for Dorothy Sebastian of Dallas will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel with Rev. Jan Sullivan officiating. Dorothy died November 19, 2013 at C.C. Young Memorial Home in Dallas.
Dorothy was born in Alexandria, LA on September 13, 1924, the only child of Loula and Frank Burton. She graduated from North Dallas High School in 1941 while she and her mother, a governess, lived in the Shepherd King home now known as The Mansion on Turtle Creek. Dorothy attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1945 with a degree in journalism.
She moved to Houston and worked for a Houston newspaper before moving to Dallas, where she met the love of her life, George Sebastian, an SMU graduate who had just returned from the war. They married in 1948, the year George founded a residential construction company, Sebastian Construction Group, now owned by his son John.
Dorothy and George were charter members of Kessler Park United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, volunteered in the church office and served as president and publicity chair of the United Methodist Women.
Predeceased by her husband in 1992, Dorothy is survived by her children, Ann Black of Sherman, Bill Sebastian of Boston, MA, Scott Sebastian of Duncanville and John Sebastian of Dallas, and six grandchildren.
