She graduated from Brownwood High School and went on to earn a degree in Bible and Accounting from Howard Payne College in Brownwood. It was there she met and married Claude Tipps. They were married for over 57 years and had three children, Doug, Gaynell and Claudia.
Together Claude and Dorothy enjoyed many years of pastoral ministry. Dorothy recounted, with a sense of fulfillment, that they “worked with fourteen churches over the years…and I was a children’s Sunday School teacher for 75 years.” She also worked outside the home in various bookkeeping jobs throughout the years.
Dorothy was known by all for her game playing prowess. She was a master at any game she played but will be especially remembered for her skill at SkipBo and Wahoo. Countless hours of laughter and fun were spent with family and friends over a good game.
The last 12 years of her life she lived in Ledbetter, Texas and was embraced by many new friends who loved her well and gave meaning to her final years.
She finished her earthly journey on May 9, 2023 surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of friends. Until her death she lived independently in her little house in Ledbetter. She lived a full life and, because of her faith in Jesus, had no fear of death. She continued to be an example to people of how to live and how to live out the Christian life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, ‘Aud’ and ‘Emma’ Keesee; husband, Claude Tipps; her daughter, Gaynell Seale; grandson, Matthew Mize; and five brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her son Doug Tipps and wife Lorri, son-in-law Jerry Seale, daughter Claudia Mize and husband Benny, 8 grandchildren, Rachael Barrera, Anna Seale, Jason Tipps (Katie), John David Tipps, Elizabeth Tipps (Tom Sutherland), Ben Mize (Lauren), Emily Mize; 10 great grandchildren Zachary Pensiero, Andrew Pensiero, Aidan Mize, Rice Tipps, Clementine Cordelia Tipps, Charlotte Barrera, Ruby Mize, Lily Mize, Maddox Tipps, and Delphine Sutherland, all of whom live in the bright light of her legacy.
Dorothy wrote of her life, “God chose me before I was born and gave me a name depicting who and what I was and was to do - Dorothy - meaning a gift from God - or a blessing.” She came to see herself as “the pipe through which God pours His blessings.” She lived her life in a manner that fully embodied her name!
