

Dorothy Joseph Unis passed away in Dallas on May 30, 2012. She was born on November 19, 1926 in Jackson Mississippi to Bessie and Ellis Joseph. One of seven children, Dorothy attended Central High School in Jackson and Louisiana State University. On September 8, 1946 she married Thomas Charles Unis of Tyler Texas. Tom and Dottie made their home in Dallas, Texas and were married for 52 years before his death in July of 1999. A devout Catholic, Dorothy’s life was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alongside Tom she participated in many civic, cultural and charitable endeavors throughout her life. A charter member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Dottie was active in many of the activities at the church, St. Thomas Aquinas School and with the Diocese of Dallas. Much of her energy was also spent volunteering at Ursuline Academy and Jesuit College Prep where her children attended school. Her faith, her family and her Lebanese heritage were most important to her. By example she passed down the culture and customs of the Joseph and Unis families to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an extraordinary cook and hostess and was happiest entertaining family and friends in her home throughout her life. Among her volunteer activities Dottie was a charter member of the Dallas Vocation Guild, a longtime member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Altar Society, the Angels of Charity of Catholic Charities, the Gem-e-ya Club, and was a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
She is survived by her four children: Cheryl Ann Mansour and husband, George “Beau”; Mary Pat Eubank and husband, Cullen of Waxahachie, Texas; Tom C. Unis Jr. and wife, Dianna; Joseph A. Unis Sr. and wife, Beth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Michael Mansour and wife, Theresa; Michelle Mansour; Thomas Anthony Mansour; Angela Eubank and Cullen Eubank Jr.; Christina Unis Elmore and husband, Jeff; Thomas C. Unis III; Joseph A. Unis, Jr. and wife, Mary Catherine. Great grandchildren include: Catherine Elizabeth and Philip Simpkins; Savannah, Michael, Ashley, Lauren and Jack Mansour; Rook Nicole Robinson; Wilson and Anna Kate Elmore.
Pallbearers are her five grandsons, Joe G. Rice Jr., Daniel Nicholas, John Gussio, Kim Wade, and Dr. Carl Noe. Honorary pallbearers are the ladies of the Dallas Vocation Guild.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Avenue, on Monday, June 4, at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 5, at 10:30 am, Reverend Monsignor Milam Joseph presiding. Interment will be at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
