Some of his fondest childhood memories were family summers spent at Canyon Lake hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Doug's life changed forever in 1979 when he was called to hang a Tiffany light fixture at the home of Jackie Gordon. Rumor has it that she made him such a good dinner that he never left and, being an intelligent man with strong convictions, Doug made Jackie his wife several months later. The Tiffany light fixture has stayed with the family through 42 years and many moves. Doug and Jackie went on to have two beautiful daughters - Cristina and Emily. Doug's girls were the apple of his eye, something easily seen by anyone who spent time with him. He worshiped his granddaughter, Amelia, and the feeling was mutual. She loved her “Pa”.
Doug's pride for his family was endless and everything that he did was in an effort to support them. Doug never bothered to do anything halfway, and he took on challenges with zest and a brilliant perspective matched by few. If he wasn't at home or at work, you could find him living life to the fullest, enjoying his ranch, his family, or maybe a ribeye and an awesome Cabernet with his many friends. No matter where he was, he was always enriching the lives of those around him. After battling near blindness most of his adult life, we are comforted knowing that he can now watch down on us with a newfound clarity.
Doug graduated from Spring Woods High School and attended University of Houston. Afterwards, he worked with his father in the lighting business, until he and Jackie moved to Dallas in 1983 where they opened Light Bulb Solution. They sold Light Bulb Solution and started Techlight with about 3,800 square feet of manufacturing space, which would eventually grow in excess of 200,000 square feet and over 150 dedicated employees.
Doug is survived by his mother Norma, siblings Robbie, Dennis, and Lisa, his wife Jackie, their daughters Cristina (Nick) and Emily, and granddaughter Amelia. Doug’s nieces and nephews are: Michelle, Jeff (Stephanie), Hank (Jackie) and their children. Doug is preceded in death by his father Wayne and sister -in-law Lyn.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
