He graduated from James Madison High School on April 3, 1964, where he ran track in the 440 yard dash. In relay races, Ed was second leg. In the 100 yard dash he won first place. After completing high school, he continued his education at El Centro College where he majored in business management and worked as an inventory control supervisor trainee. He moved on from El Centro to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
At some point, Ed was drafted into the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1971.
Ed James made his triumphant entry into heaven on March 31, 2015, while at his home in Balch Springs, Texas.
Those remaining to cherish his memories include his wife, Elthel Marie Bennette; sons, Ed James, Jr., Erasmus Sebastian James (Julie) and Elijah James; siblings, Marvel Johnson, Marvin Moore (Vickie), Alfreda Moore Foster (Robert), Mattie Rose Moore and Jaccup Moore (Sherry); special, loving aunt, Catherine Davis; special friend, Mr. Arthur Easter; grandchildren, Jabree James, Zoey James, Zaida James, Zyla James; great-grandchild, Jaylon James; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
