Mrs. Edna V. (The Nonna) Wolford (nee Succio), 93, slipped free of the bonds tying her to this world and passed peacefully very early on the morning of Saturday, August 17, 2019. She was preceded on this journey by her loving husband Carroll J. Wolford, both of her parents, George and Lucia Succio, her brother Joe and Sisters Madeline, Helen and Mary. She is survived by her children: James (Gretchen), Stephen (Johanne) and Jane Ann (Doug); her five grandchildren: Michael (Angela), Taryn, Michelle (Mike), Alex and Mary; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She started life on October 7, 1925, in the small mining and farming community of Farmington, IL, as the youngest child born into a loving family of Italian immigrants. There she excelled in high school, survived the rigors of the great depression and graduated from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, IL. Married life saw numerous moves and many adventures. She lived in Joliet, IL, where her first child was born. Then the small family packed up and moved to Minneapolis, MN, where her next two children were born. From Minneapolis, the family moved back to Illinois for a short stay in the town of Morton. Mom’s final move was to Dallas, TX, where she rapidly grew to embrace life in the South, in general, and in Texas specifically. With the possible exception of hot salsas, she loved everything about her new home.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 9933 Midway Rd, Dallas, TX, on Monday, August 26, at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Monica Music Ministry (http://www.stmonicachurch.org/resources/ ) and Faith Presbyterian Hospice (https://www.faithpreshospice.org/)
Our family also wants to express our sincere gratitude for the help Mom’s caregivers gave her and us during her final weeks. Thank you, Debbie, Chris, Kemi, Ruth and Ann for all that you did.
