

2018. Edwin graduated from Forest Avenue High School and graduated The University of Texas at Austin in 1958. He then attended law school at U.T. where he earned his law degree just 18 months later in 1959. He was a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and The International Legal Fraternity, Phi Delta Phi. Edwin served as a Captain in the US Army and was a member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Edwin’s career in law started during the Kennedy administration and he worked for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. where he established himself as a rising star. He was then assigned to open the Federal Tax Division Office in Fort Worth. After leaving the DOJ, Edwin moved to Houston where he opened and was Managing Partner of the Law Firm Sigel, Simon & Roane. The Houston firm specialized in bank acquisitions located in Texas and Louisiana. Edwin moved back to Dallas in the early 1970’s and began practice as a criminal defense attorney. He would soon go on to represent defendants in a series of high profile cases including the wrongful conviction and eventual acquittal of E Systems’ engineer, Lenell Geter. Lenell’s wrongful conviction was investigated by Morley Safer of 60 Minutes and aired Dec. 4, 1983. This resulted in national publicity and a demand for justice that helped Edwin regain Lenell's freedom. A TV movie, “Guilty of Innocence”, was produced with Dabney Coleman starring as Edwin. Edwin was well known and admired in the Dallas legal community for his charming personality and debonaire style. A longstanding member of Congregation Shearith Israel, he served faithfully and was proud of his position as a Gabbi. His many other passions included monthly lunches with longtime friends of the Last Friday’s Group which included Fred Time, Tommy Spigel and Allen Luterman. An avid cyclist, Edwin enjoyed biking almost daily the 11 miles around White Rock Lake, rain or shine. He was immensely proud of his only child, Marc Sigel, and the greatest joy in his life was being a father. Edwin was predeceased by his parents, brother Myron Sigel, and Marc’s mother, Frances Arms Sigel. Edwin is survived by wife Mary MacCammon, as well as son Marc Sigel, daughter-in-law Connie Sigel and grandchildren Hunter and Kendell Sigel. A celebration of his life will be held at Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Ave., on Monday, May 28th at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following at Sparkman-Hillcrest. Pallbearers are John LaCoke, Frank LaCoke, David Sigel and Hunter Sigel.
