Elaine Collie died at the age of 93 after a long illness. She was born and raised in Sioux City, IA to James D. and Winifred Griffin, and was the youngest of four siblings. She served as a Red Cross nurses’ aide in WWII, after the war working as a grand jury clerk in Woodbury County, IA and then as executive secretary to the District Attorneys of Denver, CO and Dallas, TX. She married Dallas attorney Waller M. Collie, Jr. in 1950, and is survived by son Waller “Sonny” Collie and wife Cathi, daughter Christine Collie, daughter Carol Redwine, and five beloved grandsons -- James Buchmeyer, Turner Collie, Kelly Pierce, Dillon Redwine and Keelan Redwine. Elaine was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dallas Lawyer’s Wives Club, Canterbury Review Club, and the Junior Matheon and Matheon Clubs. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, music, bridge, travel, the performing arts, and her Dallas Mavericks. Throughout her life, she was devoted to each adopted dog who was lucky enough to live with and be loved by her. Intelligent, articulate and overflowing with Irish humor and beauty, Elaine shared her love of life with all who knew her, and was a devoted and loyal daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear and fiercely loyal friend to many. Her ceaseless interest, support and unconditional love for her family defined her, and will never be forgotten. We have been blessed indeed by her presence in our lives. A private graveside service will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Cemetery at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 27th. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made in Elaine's honor to the SPCA of Texas, Dallas Chapter. In lasting remembrance of Elaine and her Irish wit, put a small garden leprechaun in a magical place in your garden. Elaine’s Irish spirit will bless you always!
