Eleanor Trachtenberg died early Tuesday morning, 3/20/2018, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas after a brief illness, surrounded by family. She was born in Danville, VA, on 5/8/1934. She moved to Brooklyn, NY, as a six-month-old infant and lived there until she married. Eleanor graduated from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, NY, and the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT. She completed a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education at Banks Street College in Manhattan, NY. She married Isaac Trachtenberg and moved to Galveston, TX. They relocated to Dallas, TX, in 1960, where she resided for the rest of her adult life. She was active in the Temple Emanu-El choir, Beth el Binah congregation and WRJ. She enjoyed the symphony and live theatre. Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Nathan Levin; a son, Joseph Steven Trachtenberg, and ex-husband, Isaac Trachtenberg. Eleanor is survived by a son, Michael Eric Trachtenberg (Laura) and a grandson, Joseph “Joey” Fitzgerald Trachtenberg. A memorial service will be held in Dallas on Friday, 3/23, at 10 am in Temple Emanu-El’s Stern Chapel.
