On June 25, 2013 Elizabeth Kendrick Shepherd entered heaven fulfilling the promise of her Lord written in John 6:47, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on Me hath everlasting life." (KJV) and to be reunited with her husband of over 47 years, Rodney Shepherd. Born on November 4, 1917 to Andrew Kendrick and Marcella Lloyd Kendrick in Pottsville, AR she was the third of four children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Shepherd, parents Andrew and Marcella Kendrick, brothers Jennings Kendrick and Andy Bratton Kendrick and sister Anna Sparks. She moved to Russellville, AR with her family in the early 1920's, where she lived until she married Rodney Shepherd in Tulsa, OK on October 12, 1940. The couple moved to Texas in 1941 living the remainder of their lives in the East Dallas Area where they were committed members of the fellowship of Gaston Avenue Baptist Church, and Elizabeth was an active member and officer in the Rebecca Lodge and volunteered in the Lakewood Historical Society.
Elizabeth's life modeled her Christian faith and love for family and friends. Her joy was teaching early childhood development classes for over 30 years in both private day care schools and for many years in the Mother's Day Out program at Wilshire Baptist Church where she presently attended and was a member and served as secretary for the Joy Class until a few years before her passing.
She is survived by her daughter, Tishie M. Aldridge and husband Joe of Dallas, TX, three grandchildren, Torie Deremo and husband Mark of Arlington, TX, Matthew Aldridge and wife LaDonna of Allen, TX, Angela Schroeder and husband Jeff of Katy, TX, nine great grandchildren, Kate and Laura Deremo, Anthony Aldridge and wife Bianca, Caitlin, and Jordyn Aldridge, Cody Garcia and wife Tatiana and Ethan Schroeder.
The family wishes to thank the caring, supportive staffs of C.C. Young, where Elizabeth lived for 5 years, and Legacy at Preston Hollow, where she has been a resident for the past year. We are also grateful for the hours of care provided by the attentive nurses and aides of Vitas Hospice.
Services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Grove Hill Funeral Home Chapel, 10 AM. Visitation will precede the service at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilshire Baptist Church, 4316 Abrams Rd., Dallas, TX 75214 (where they will be designated for the Early Childhood Learning Center), or the charity of your choice.
