With hearts full of gratitude and love, we celebrate the life of Elmer, who went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2026, at the age of 98. He is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife Juanita and sons, Edwin and Darwin, whom he missed dearly and carried in his heart always.
Born on January 4, 1928, Elmer lived a life defined by faith, service, and steady devotion. In 1954, he answered the call to ministry and faithfully served as a pastor until 2003. For nearly five decades, he preached in many churches, led countless people to know the Lord, and offered guidance rooted in Scripture and love. His sermons were powerful, but it was his everyday life that preached the loudest. His voice carried truth, but his life carried even more. He did not just preach the Gospel; he lived it.
He was a steady presence, a man of prayer, wisdom, and unwavering conviction. His love for Scripture shaped his days, and his compassion shaped the lives of those around him. To his family, he was not only a pastor but a pillar. His guidance was gentle yet firm, his laughter warm, and his prayers constant.
Elmer was a hard-working man with strong hands and a gentle spirit. He built things that lasted, both in his workshop and in the lives of those around him. He loved fishing, finding peace by the water, and he found joy in shaping wood into something useful and beautiful. If something was broken, he tried to fix it. If someone was hurting, he went to see them.
He loved people deeply. Many will remember him quietly visiting the sick, sitting beside hospital beds, offering prayer, comfort, and sometimes a well-timed joke to lighten heavy moments. He had a playful streak and was known for his pranks and quick humor. Even in serious seasons, he found ways to make others smile. His laughter was a gift, and so was his kindness.
Elmer leaves behind five grandchildren– Nita Tucker, Gina Ward, Eric Sarratt, Ashley Stevens, and Clayton Sarratt– nine great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, daughters in law, and the spouses of his grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of faith, compassion, and perseverance. His life planted seeds that will continue to grow for generations.
Though we grieve his absence, we rejoice knowing he now stands face to face with the Savior he so faithfully served, reunited with the love of his life and his sons.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and joyfully remembered.
