

Elodia Herrera, 84, was born in Austin, TX to Jesus Maria Cantu and Benita Frias in August 13, 1930. She passed away in Dallas, TX on May 14, 2015. Elodia had a kind and forgiving spirit. She made many friends throughout her long life. Not only was she friendly, she also had a big sense of humor and had a passion for the art of shopping! She loved to dance to her favorite cumbias. She also enjoyed relaxing at home and watching The Price is Right, The Wheel of Fortune and telenovelas. During family gatherings, Elodia was described as the kitchen commander, often making sure all the home cooked meals were made to perfection. Elodia was known for her strong faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ; she often prayed for the intercession of our Holy Mother Mary and her favorite Saints for the protection of her family and friends. She was a devout parishioner of over 30 years at St. Edward’s Catholic Church and St. Michael the Arch Angel Catholic Church. She is loved and will be dearly missed by all those whose heart she touched. She is survived by her daughters Yolanda Cole and husband, Thomas "Chuck", Sonnia Oliva and husband, Juan, Elizabeth Phillips and husband, Bruce; siblings, Frank Cantu wife, Cora, Mary Villarreal husband, Pete, Josephine Moreno and husband, Bernardo and Amparo and husband, Gary Hall; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She has joined her mother and father, Jesus Maria Cantu and Benita Frias; son, Noe Balderrama; siblings, Alicia Cantu, Felipa Deanda and Rudolph "Rudy" Cantu. Elodia is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Bertha Gutierrez, son-in-law, Ruperto Gutierrez, and son, Noe Balderrama. Join the Herrera family is remembering and celebrating the life of Elodia. Visitation will be held between 4PM and 8PM on Thursday, May 21, 2015, with a Rosary at 6PM in the Calvary Hill Funeral Home chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12PM on Friday. May 22, 2015 in the North Mausoleum Chapel of Calvary Hill.
