Bud was born September 5, 1922 in Johnson City, NY to Clyde and Carrie Allen Butterfield.
He is survived by his son Allen (Virginia) Cranberry Township, PA, and his daughter, Suzanne (Kenny)
Melton Barnard Double Oak, TX.
Bud was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Joe (Jen) Butterfield Cranberry Township, PA, Christopher (Erin) Melton Austin, TX, Kelly Thompson Austin, TX, and Sara (Joe) Fleming Omaha, NE.
His 5 great-grandchildren, Aleigha Thompson, Justin and Juliana Butterfield, Liam and Ellie Fleming, brought much joy to Bud with their hugs, giggles, special notes, and FaceTime chats.
He was proud of his service during World War II, serving 1942-46 in the US Army Air Corps, and discharged as a Sergeant.
After the military Bud entered the burgeoning world of commercial aviation first with Robinson Airlines which grew into Mohawk Airlines, a Northeastern regional carrier. His work in Aircraft Maintenance and Administration took him around the world and he brought back many interesting stories of his travels. He retired from the airline industry with US Air in the 1980s. He relished the challenges and enjoyed the
rewards of the aviation world.
In his later years Bud was an active member of the Christus St. Joseph retirement community in Coppell, TX. Always smiling and joking Bud took part in as many activities as he could-ushering at Mass, meeting with other military service veterans, doing weekly ‘bread runs’ to the local food bank, helping out whenever he was asked, and participating in social events, especially if they involved singing and dancing to tunes from the 40s, and even tried out yoga ball drumming! This he said was a throwback to his teenage years drumming in parades with his dad in the local Drum Corps.
As he slowed down his activities, he could always be counted on for a smile, a laugh, and some lively conversation! He was proud to call St. Joseph’s Village his home.
Bud was predeceased by his wife Ellie January 2005, his son Bryan December 2018, and his sister Beverly Cree June 2021.
In lieu of flowers the family requests considering a gift to Christus St. Joseph Chapel Fund, National World War II Museum in New Orleans, or Nature Conservancy.
