Emilyne Weed Anding, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born on January 10, 1935, in Houston, Texas, Emilyne was the daughter of Wesley Weed and Marguerite Ray Weed. She was raised in Dallas, where she developed a lifelong love of learning, history, and community. She grew up alongside her siblings, Allen Weed, Martha Worsley, and Wesley Weed, Jr. Her sister, Martha, survives her.
Emilyne graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas before earning her bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in 1957. She later received a Master’s degree in Education from Southern Methodist University.
On June 15, 1957, she married Thomas Earl Anding, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted until his death on November 20, 2015. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, education, and service to others.
Emilyne dedicated her entire teaching career to Hyer Elementary School in the Highland Park Independent School District, where she taught first grade for many years. Gifted with patience, warmth, and a genuine love for children, she helped generations of young students take their first steps in education. Former students and their families remember her as a teacher who combined high expectations with encouragement and kindness.
A faithful member of Northway Christian Church, Emilyne lived her faith through service, generosity, and care for others. Her interests extended beyond the classroom. She was an active member of the Antiquers Club and devoted countless hours to preserving the history of her beloved city through her involvement with Dallas Heritage Village, formerly known as Old City Park, and the Dallas Historical Society. She had a deep appreciation for antiques, historic homes, and the stories that connect generations.
Above all, Emilyne treasured her family. She was a devoted mother to Brian Sheldon Anding and his wife, Gloria, and to Kelly Anding Moorhead and her husband, Michael. She was a proud grandmother to Taylor Hayden, Christine Hartley and her husband, Jacob, and Caroline O’Grady and her husband, Brandon. She delighted in the lives of her great-grandsons, Liam Allen Miles and Jack Hartley, whose love brought her immeasurable joy.
Emilyne will be remembered for her gracious spirit, gentle wisdom, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering kindness. She possessed a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Whether in her classroom, her church, her volunteer work, or her home, she enriched the lives of those around her through quiet acts of service and steadfast devotion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Earl Anding; her parents, Wesley Weed and Marguerite Ray Weed; and her brothers, Allen Weed and Wesley Weed, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Brian Sheldon Anding and his wife, Gloria; her daughter, Kelly Anding Moorhead and her husband, Michael; her granddaughter, Taylor Hayden; her granddaughter, Christine Hartley and her husband, Jacob; her granddaughter, Caroline O’Grady and her husband, Brandon; her great-grandsons, Liam Allen Miles and Jack Hartley; her sister, Martha Worsley; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, and friends.
Emilyne’s life was a testament to the enduring values of faith, family, education, and service. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the generations that follow her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the SPCA, the Wounded Warrior Project, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
