Emma Benavides Coronado, una querida madre, abuela, bisabuela, hermana y mujer de fe, fue llamada a la vida eterna el 19 de mayo de 2026. Nació el 31 de agosto de 1940 en Reynosa, Tamaulipas, México, de sus amorosos padres, Amador Benavides y Petra Rodriguez Serna, y fue la apreciada nieta de Pedro Rodriguez y Luisa Serna. Emma fue una de seis hijos. Ahora se reúne en el descanso eterno con sus hermanos Alicia Benavides- Cantu, Amador Benavides, Blanca Pedraza y Ricardo Benavides, y le sobrevive su hermana, Gloria Benavides. También fue precedida en la muerte por su hijo primogénito, Vicente Coronado, quien falleció al nacer—una pérdida que llevó con fortaleza silenciosa y fe inquebrantable durante toda su vida. Fue una madre dedicada de Martin B. Coronado (Delia), Martha A. Santos (Noel), Emilio Coronado, Jr., Emma Coronado-Harvey (Richard), Myrna E. Coronado-Brookover (TJ), Jaime Coronado (Cynthia) y Alma D. Coronado-Wright (Roddy). Su amor y guía formaron generaciones y dejaron un legado duradero. También es recordada con cariño por sus nietos, quienes la conocían como “Mama”: Noel Santos, Jr., Vanessa A. Santos-Cabañas, Aimee E. Harvey, Esq., Dra. Madeleine A. Coronado, Amanda G. Harvey, Anthony J. (AJ) Brookover, Isabella G. Coronado, Vivian E. Hallman, Andrew V. Coronado y Julieta P. Hallman, así como por su bisnieto, Jacob E. Cabañas.

Emma vivió una vida fundamentada en una fe católica inquebrantable como devota feligresa de la Iglesia Católica Our Lady of the Lake en Rockwall, Texas. Asistía regularmente a la Santa Misa y fielmente transmitía la Santa Misa a diario, comenzando cada mañana con el Rosario y poniendo a Dios en el centro de su vida. Encontró fortaleza en los sacramentos, profundo consuelo en la Santísima Virgen María y mantenía una devoción especial a San Junípero Serra Ferrer; su vida reflejaba su querida oración:

“El Señor es mi luz y mi fortaleza; nada me faltará.” (Salmo 27:1; Salmo 23:1)

Emma será recordada por su espíritu alegre: era divertida, cálida y le encantaba reunir a la familia, especialmente durante animados juegos de lotería. Expresaba su amor a través de la cocina, compartiendo preciadas tradiciones mexicanas y preparando platillos favoritos como tamales caseros, sopa de fideo, caldo de res, picadillo con papas y reconfortante arroz con leche, llenando su hogar de calidez, sabor y amor.

Tenía un profundo amor por la creación de Dios y encontraba paz y propósito en cuidar sus plantas de interior y su jardín, atendiéndolos con paciencia y orgullo. También apreciaba mucho a las aves, disfrutando alimentarlas, verlas reunirse y escuchar sus cantos. Para ella, eran suaves recordatorios de la belleza y presencia de Dios en la vida cotidiana. Amaba a sus dos gatos, Melody y Deborah, quienes le brindaban consuelo, compañía y alegría.

En lugar de flores, la familia solicita amablemente intenciones de Misa o donaciones a la Fundación La Promesa en Midland, Texas, la cual opera la Guadalupe Radio Network, una organización católica sin fines de lucro.

Emma Benavides Coronado, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and devoted woman of faith, was called to eternal life on May 19, 2026. She was born on August 31, 1940, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to her loving parents, Amador Benavides and Petra Rodriguez Serna, and was the cherished granddaughter of Pedro Rodriguez and Luisa Serna. Emma was one of six children. She is now reunited in eternal rest with her siblings Alicia Benavides-Cantu, Amador Benavides, Blanca Pedraza, and Ricardo Benavides, and is survived by her sister, Gloria Benavides. She was also preceded in death by her firstborn child, Vicente Coronado, who passed at birth—a loss she carried with quiet strength and unwavering faith throughout her life. She was a devoted mother to Martin B. Coronado (Delia), Martha A. Santos (Noel), Emilio Coronado, Jr., Emma Coronado-Harvey (Richard), Myrna E. Coronado-Brookover (TJ), Jaime Coronado (Cynthia), and Alma D. Coronado-Wright (Roddy). Her love and guidance shaped generations and left a lasting legacy. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, who knew her as “Mama”: Noel Santos, Jr., Vanessa A. Santos-Cabañas, Aimee E. Harvey, Esq., Dr. Madeleine A. Coronado, Amanda G. Harvey, Anthony J. (AJ) Brookover, Isabella G. Coronado, Vivian E. Hallman, Andrew V. Coronado, and Julieta P. Hallman, as well as her great-grandson, Jacob E. Cabañas.

Emma lived a life grounded in unwavering Catholic faith as a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall, Texas. She regularly attended Mass and faithfully streamed the Holy Mass daily, beginning each morning with the Rosary and placing God at the center of her life. She found strength in the sacraments, deep comfort in the Blessed Virgin Mary, and held a special devotion to St. Junípero Serra Ferrer; her life reflected her cherished prayer:

“The Lord is my light and my strength; I shall not want.” (Psalm 27:1; Psalm 23:1)

Emma will be remembered for her joyful spirit—she was funny, warm, and loved bringing family together, especially over lively games of lotería. She expressed her love through cooking, sharing treasured Mexican traditions and preparing favorite dishes such as homemade tamales, sopa de fideo, caldo de res, picadillo con papas and comforting arroz con leche, filling her home with warmth, flavor, and love.

She had a deep love for God’s creation and found peace and purpose in caring for her indoor plants and garden, tending to them with patience and pride. She also cherished birds, delighting in feeding them, watching them gather, and listening to their songs. To her, they were gentle reminders of God’s beauty and presence in everyday life. She loved her two cats, Melody and Deborah, who brought her comfort, companionship, and joy.

Emma’s life was one of faith, love, resilience, and gentle strength. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests Mass intentions or donations to La Promesa Foundation in Midland, Texas, which operates the Guadalupe Radio Network, a nonprofit Catholic organization.
