Epsie Rucker, born on July 8, 1950, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. At the age of 73, Epsie leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, ministry to others, and unwavering faith.
Epsie dedicated her life to others, charitable work, and furthering the kingdom of Christ. Epsie's involvement with various charities and her most recent commitment to The Friendship House as the Food Bank Ministry Director, are a testament to her boundless faith and love for others and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For over twenty years, Epsie ensured that no one in her community went hungry, spreading the gospel, and providing hope and counseling to many. Epsie's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Epsie was a regular presence at church, participating in numerous activities, including teaching Sunday School for over forty years, the Gideons, prison ministry, and more. Epsie's deep devotion and acts of kindness touched many lives and Epsie will be remembered for her compassion and beautiful spirit. Epsie is loved by so many.
Epsie attended both Texas Tech University and the University of North Texas, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees. Epsie had a diverse career path over the years as a teacher, track coach, school counselor, and psychologist, prior to becoming the Director of The Friendship House, impacting countless lives, but most importantly was Epsie's role as a dedicated loving wife and mother.
Epsie is survived by her loving family: spouse, Payne Victor Rucker, Jr.; daughter, Jennifer Rucker; Epsie's family to include her sister, Nancy Burks and spouse, Kenneth Burks; her niece and nephews, their spouses and children; a large extended family; and a vast community that will forever cherish her memory and Epsie's impact. Epsie is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Alice Turner; her sister, Alice Cline; and in-laws, Payne Victor, Sr. and Elizabeth Rucker.
A public viewing will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, June 14, 2024, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, in Dallas, TX. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, June 15, 2024, at First Baptist Church of The Fields in Carrollton, TX, with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Friendship House, a ministry of First Baptist Church of the Fields, or The Gideon's, reflecting Epsie's lifelong commitment to helping others.
