Essie Lee Kirkpatrick was born on April 2, 1936, in Homer, Louisiana to the
parentage of John Henry Herron and Elsie Jane Johnson Herron.
Essie obtained her early childhood education in Homer, LA. (Claiborne Parish). She received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Grambling State University.
Essie accepted Christ at an early age. She attended and was an active participant
at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Homer. She moved to Dallas in 1961 where she attended Judea Baptist Church. She later became a member of Eastgate Baptist Church where she served as an Usher.
Essie worked in the principal’s office at Elisha M. Pease elementary school for many years (DISD). She also worked at Texas Instruments. Essie enjoyed a 30+ year career with the Social Security Administration where she was known for
her knowledge, attention to detail, training skills, willingness to help others and her patience and friendly attitude with both co-workers and customers. She retired from the SSA.
In February of 1956, she married Robert Lee Kirkpatrick. Essie was a devoted wife and became the mother of four children: Sharon Diane Kirkpatrick Jones, Robert Lee Kirkpatrick, Jr., Robin LaRay Kirkpatrick Porter and Roderick LeMont Kirkpatrick. Essie loved to play Spades, Computer games and other card games. Her favorite T.V. show was Martin. She also loved to sew and make matching outfits for herself and her daughters.
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, Essie Lee Kirkpatrick entered into her eternal home of Glory. She was welcomed by her parents: John Henry Herron and Elsie Jane Johnson Herron; her sister Janie Marie Herron Henry; and her brother Willis Herron.
Essie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Robert Lee Kirkpatrick (92); children, Sharon Diane Kirkpatrick Jones (Clarence), Robert Lee Kirkpatrick, Jr., Robin LaRay Kirkpatrick Porter and Roderick LeMont Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Tiffani Nicole Jones Masento (Sidney), Clarence Reginald Jones II, Bianca LaRae Porter, Briana LeRay Porter and Gynae Lynette Kirkpatrick; great grandchildren, Gianna Elise Masento, Kai Alexander Masento and Kylie LeRay Porter; her twin sister, Ruthie Lee Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
