Gene A. Coppedge, age 92, passed away December 5, 2019 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on August 26, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to Virgil and Lennie Coppedge. Gene was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Forest High School and furthered his education, graduated from Austin College in 1952 and earned his Master's Degree in Education from East Texas State University in 1972. He served for 4 years in the Army in the Korean War. Gene was a Biology High School Teacher, coached football and basketball at North Dallas High School and Lake Highlands High School where he worked for more than 40 years. In his spare time Gene loved to play golf with his old High School and Coaching friends. He also enjoyed fishing at "The Farm" and cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gene was a long time member Park Cities Baptist Church.
Gene taught hundreds of Lake Highlands children to swim during the summer months and after retirement, he returned to Richardson ISD as a visiting principal and law enforcement liaison. His family will always remember him for his kind heart. He was a wonderful father, coach and teacher. Gene was a man of few words, but when he spoke... it was profound!
Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Kathleen Jones-Coppedge; daughters, Gena Coppedge-Van Osslaer and Susan Miller.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheri Coppedge and Nancy Jones-Turbeville; grandchildren, Wendy Connors, Tory Van Osselaer, Trevor Van Osselaer, Chris Perkins, Kathy Lapp, Jeannine Mulkey and Jeffrey Miller; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Conners, Travis Shouse, Brooke Lapp, Hunter Lapp, Clayton Mulkey, Tyler Mulkey, Kate Mulkey and Sophia Miller.
