He is survived by 2 daughters, JoNita Luna Jones and husband, Danny, and Sandy Lee Holleman and husband, Allen; sister, Olga Tapia; brother, Oscar Flores; 6 grandchildren, Duane and wife Amy, Brad and wife Staci, Alicia Long, Chad and wife Beth, Erica and husband Daniel, and Lee Meek; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 20 years, Gustine Snider Luna.

Gene was employed by Freeman Decorating Co. for 43 years. He loved his job and the people he worked with, Gene will always be remembered for his fun loving, outgoing personality, and his great Christian faith. Gene lived for his family and others, never missing an opportunity to meet new friends. It can truly be said that Gene never met a stranger. He enjoyed life and he enjoyed building things throughout his life, whether it be furniture, toys or birdhouses. He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church. He leaves behind a host of friends and relatives. Most importantly, Gene (Daddy, G-daddy) "lived" and let us all watch him do it. He set a standard for love, leaving us a legacy to carry and share! Please in lieu of flowers, give a donation to the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 1:00pm, and funeral service on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 2:00pm. Both at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
