Evelyn G Daniels

Dr. Evelyn Green Daniels was born on March 14, 1946, in Timothy, Texas, to the late Flonza Green Sr. and Massie Green. She peacefully transitioned from this life at her home in Grand Prairie, Texas, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Evelyn accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, where she nurtured her spiritual walk and fellowship with others.

A lifelong learner and trailblazer, Evelyn possessed a deep love for education and inspired generations of family members to pursue academic excellence. She attended primary school in Corsicana, Texas, before moving to Dallas, where she graduated with honors from James Madison High School in 1967, becoming the first member of her immediate family to graduate from high school with honors.

Her educational journey continued at Dallas College El Centro Campus before earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Dallas Baptist University. In 2003, she earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, becoming the first member of her immediate family to earn a doctoral degree.

Dr. Daniels’ life was marked by extraordinary accomplishments and groundbreaking achievements. In 1966, she began her federal service career with the U.S. Civil Service Commission, now known as the United States Office of Personnel Management. Her achievement was recognized in the Dallas Times Herald as she became the first high school student hired by a federal agency through the Federal Student Aid Program.

Throughout her distinguished career, Evelyn worked for the United States Department of Labor and later the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In 1981, she made history as the first African American woman in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to serve as Personnel Officer for a major federal agency at the U.S. EPA.

Her dedication and excellence continued to open doors. In 1987, she became the first Personnel Officer selected for a prestigious long-term training program that allowed her to attend graduate school full-time for one year. In 1991, she was honored as the first African American female Distinguished Alumna of Dallas Baptist University. The following year, she again broke barriers as the first African American woman to deliver the commencement address at the university.

After a lifetime of dedicated service, Evelyn retired from federal service in 2006, becoming the first member of her immediate family to retire from federal employment. Upon her retirement from federal service, Evelyn progressed from serving as an adjunct professor at Dallas Baptist University to becoming a full-time professor in DBU’s School of Business, where she taught both undergraduate and graduate students.

She was an exceptional professor who especially enjoyed teaching international students each year. She found great joy in introducing them to American culture and customs. Evelyn planned many outings and experiences for her students, including viewing Christmas lights, dining in local restaurants, and hosting gatherings in her home where students practiced conversational English with her family, friends, and neighbors. These moments reflected her warmth, generosity, and passion for helping others feel welcomed and valued.

Beyond her professional achievements, Evelyn was deeply committed to her community and civic organizations. She was an active member of The Priscilla Art Club until her health began to decline and was also a proud member of the South Dallas Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc.

Evelyn also found great joy in gardening. She could often be found tending to her flowers, carefully nurturing her yard, or sharing gardening tips and wisdom with neighbors and friends. Her garden reflected the same beauty, patience, and care that she poured into every aspect of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fredrick A. Daniels Sr.; her parents, Flonza Green Sr. and Massie Johnson Green; and her sisters, Freda Nell Jones (Willie) and Easter Mae Carter (Leonard).

Dr. Evelyn Green Daniels leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children: Sheila Brock, Walter Blair Jr., June Davis, Fredrick Daniels II (Paola), and bonus son Darryl Daniels; grandchildren, Shelisa Evelyn Brock, Esq., Mars Sofia Daniels, and Julián David Daniels; and a host of extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, church family, neighbors, and loved ones whose lives she touched profoundly.

Dr. Daniels’ legacy is one of faith, perseverance, education, leadership, and grace. Through God’s favor and her unwavering determination, she was often “the first,” but her greatest accomplishment was paving the way for countless others to follow. Her life’s example will continue to inspire all who knew and love

Committal will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232, US, on July 11, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
