

Evelyn Glenn Holt, 97 yrs old, passed away on June 19, 2026 in Mesquite Texas. She was born on October 21, 1928 in Greenville, Mississippi to James Weathers Glenn and Bonnie Rae Anders Glenn. At 2 yrs. old, her parents moved her to her Dad’s birthplace, Buffalo, Texas. In 1942, her mom took a job at North America Chance Vought Aircraft in Grand Prairie and moved the little family of now 3, to Dallas, Texas, where Evelyn enrolled in Crozier Tech High School and graduated in 1946.
Evelyn met Joe Holt in 1946 and married him in 1947. Joe and Evelyn had 2 children. Glenda and Tom. Evelyn’s career was mostly in Accounting and Bookkeeping starting at GMAC insurance, before enlisting in 30 yrs with Dallas Independent School District. She spent 28 yrs at Bryan Adams H.S. then retired and worked another 2 years in DISD Personnel. For 12 years, Evelyn and Joe traveled the United States dragging their RV to various camp sites. They even hooked up with the Gadabout RV Travel Club to find more adventures. Her next passion was reading. While Joe drove, she’d read….until she’d realize Joe didn’t turn at the last sign where he should have.
Over the course of her long, blessed life, Evelyn has been recognized and awarded for many outstanding and dedicated projects to which she had committed her time. She wrote in one memory book, “My proudest career accomplishment was being a Lifetime Member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.” Eveyln was very active in various community and church activities in the growing far East Dallas community. As a member of the Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church since 2006, she participated in the Widows Group projects and the Hospitality Committee. And was awarded the Woman of the Year from the Vanguard Chapter of ABWA, American Business Women’s Association in 2007.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Bonnie Glenn, her little sister, Bobbie Dean, and her brother, Charles Glenn and her husband of 58 yrs, Joe Holt.
Survivors are her daughter; Glenda Penn & husband, Perry, son: Tom Holt & wife, Julie. Grandchildren: Trey Penn & wife, Samantha, Mischel Luecke & husband, Mike; Jennifer Holt Dahl & husband, Brandon; Lindsey Holt McCullah & husband, David. Plus 7 great-grandchildren! Madison, MaKayla, Kyser, Kinsley, Brynly, Preston and Joann. And a favorite niece, Rita, as well as many Natchez/Homochitta, Mississippi and Buffalo to Rockwall, Texas cousins. Her circle of friends seemed to grow by the day wherever she went, and she was always surrounded by numerous special friends. She knew she was blessed by Jesus.
A Funeral Service will be held at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228, on June 29, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:15 am, followed by Interment at Rest Haven Memorial Park - Rockwall, 2500 TX-66, Rockwall, TX 75087, on June 29, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
