Mrs. Florida S. Scruggs, 87, of Dallas, Texas, was born on July 6, 1938, in Natchez, Mississippi, and transitioned to her heavenly home on May 8, 2026. Florida was born the 5th child of 13 children to the parentage of the late Johnny and Mary Reynolds.
In her early years, Florida was known for her light-filled countenance and beautiful smile. Raised in Natchez, Mississippi, she received formal education through the Natchez public school system.
At an early age, Florida accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Egypt Baptist Church. After relocating to Dallas, Texas, in 1958, she united with Bexar Street Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in the choir. She later became a devoted member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Paul E. Walker. Mrs. Scruggs faithfully served on the Hospitality Committee and remained a member until her passing.
On December 16, 1992, she married the love of her life, James A. Scruggs. Together they shared 12 loving years of marriage until his passing.
Florida was employed for many years at Peter Paul Candy Company until the company relocated to Connecticut. She later began a career with General Motors, where she faithfully worked for 20 years before retiring. Following retirement, she lovingly devoted herself to helping raise her grandchildren until her health began to decline. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She enjoyed telling stories and playing games with her grandchildren and was always there whenever they needed her. Whether it was offering comfort, making them homemade soups or simply quality time together, Florida made her family feel deeply loved and cared for. She also enjoyed relaxing while watching shows such as Judge Judy, which often brought her laughter and enjoyment.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, James Scruggs; one son, Alvin Reynolds; three sisters, Annie “Bee” Jackson and Irene Reynolds of Mississippi, and Pearline Reynolds of Dallas, Texas; and six brothers, including her twin brother, Leon Reynolds, Robert Reynolds of Dallas, Texas, and Jonny Jr., Ernest Reynolds, Charles Reynolds, and Willie Reynolds, all of Natchez, Mississippi.
Cherishing her precious memories are one daughter, Andrea “Kay” Miller; three sons, Claudell Reynolds, Sherman Reynolds, and Benjamin “Ben” Brooks, all of Dallas, Texas; seven sisters, Mary Reynolds, Willie Mae Gorham, Madeline Reynolds, Ruby Harris, Ida Reynolds, and Mamie Collins, all of Dallas, Texas, and Velma Sterling of Natchez, Mississippi; one brother-in-law, Charles Harris of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Affectionately known as “Flo” and “Granny,” Mrs. Scruggs will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. While we treasure the moments shared with her on earth, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Christ Jesus and hold fast to the hope that we will see her again in glory through the loving grace of God.
