Hebrews 12:1b-2 “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” Fran McCarty has completed the race God placed before her, entering His kingdom the morning of November 2, 2023 following a very brief illness. She was 88 years old. She intentionally lived life to the fullest and ran her race well. To all who experienced her joy and contagious giggles, Fran will always be remembered as a loving and incredible wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and cookie baker. Her race began early as her parents nurtured Fran in her faith in Christ. Fran grew up in Findlay, Ohio, surrounded by cousins and family and was active in school including as a cheerleader. In college, she achieved her Master’s degree in Nursing as a proud Ohio State Buckeye where she taught nursing at Ohio State University Hospital and met her husband, Dr. W. Duane McCarty. Fran spent most of her adult life in Albuquerque, NM where she raised her four children and later became a certified financial planner, giving priority to relationships and retirement guidance over financial gain. She was committed to the study of scripture to deepen her relationship with God devoting over 40 years to Bible Study Fellowship and other Bible studies. She enjoyed time supporting the development of others acting as PTA President, President of Business and Professional Women of New Mexico, active in Sanado Women’s Group and tutoring elementary students to share her passion for reading. While she was imperfect, she was a dedicated wife, caregiver and mother to the McCarty family, dog mom to her beloved miniature schnauzers, global traveler to every continent including 3 trips to Israel, avid reader, and fervent blanket maker for her grand and great grandchildren. Fran and Duane loved the southwest vistas and culture, embraced Native American art and jewelry, and were eager to share tours of Old Town, Santa Fe and the International Balloon fiesta with Ohio family and grandchildren. Her love language was feeding you. She baked favorite cakes for every birthday, freshly baked homemade cookies were a staple for her children’s arrival from school, and stubbornly insisted on cooking something for any/every event, often arriving with a cooler full of food in her monthly treks from Albuquerque to Amarillo to Dallas. She often hosted her book club and Sanado women in her lovely home with unparalleled views of the Sandia mountains and the Rio Grande River. She instilled her love of Christ and immense faith in His goodness into her daily activity. Her sacrificial investment of time, energy and love in her children, their families, friends, and her community were significant but to those who loved her, she is irreplaceable and left a wonderful legacy.
Fran is survived by her four children and their spouses: Susan Doyle (Shawn); Jim McCarty (Cathy); Becky Galvan (Jaime); and Sharon Ellis (Steven); six grandchildren, Connor Doyle, Cristin Doyle Sullivan, Sarah McCarty Evalle, Abby McCarty Petree, Brandon and Matthew Galvan, and their spouses; 6 ½ great grandchildren - Ella Grace, Emery, and Elijah Galvan (Brandon), Henry Galvan (Matthew), Eleanor Evalle, Esther Petree and future baby Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dr. W. Duane McCarty, her parents, and her brother George.
A celebration of her life will be held at Highland Country Fellowship, 8202 Boedeker, Dallas, TX on Monday, November 20th at 11:30am.
