Frances Jean Choice Jones was born Saturday, July 9, 1927 to the parentage of Governor Paul and Lena (Harris) Choice. She was their youngest daughter and sometimes most precocious child. “Jean” as she was affectionally called grew up in Red River County (Bagwell, Texas) and was educated in the public schools there and graduated from high school in 1945.
Ever the trailblazer and adventurous spirit, she was the first of her siblings to relocate to Dallas, Texas in the late 1940s and lived downtown on North Pearl Street. Like many women of that era, she worked in a clothing factory. Her bus riding companions became her friends and one would become her sister-in-law. It was on a bus ride to work she befriended Esther (Jones) Jackson who introduced her to her younger brother, James William Jones, Sr. (Jake).
After a courtship, the couple married on February 4, 1950. To this union, four children, eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great children were born. Frances was a devoted wife and loving and caring mother whose passion for Christ, cooking, loving, and laughter she shared and deposited into all in her care.
Frances grew up in the Methodist church and professed a belief in Christ at an early age. She was known to be an audible praiser who celebrated her love for the LORD in a demonstrative way. She held active memberships at Lone Star Baptist Church, New Jerusalem Institutional Baptist Church, and Ervay Cedar Baptist Church. At each of her churches, she was a Deaconess, served on the Usher Board and was a regular Sunday School attendee. At Ervay Cedar, she led both the Pastor’s Aide Ministry and Deaconess Board; and was a member of the Mothers Board.
Frances, had a huge heart for children and was employed the cafeteria of Albert Sidney Johnston where she was known to be the one who’d put extra food on children’s plates. Many of the former students, now all adults, still hold fond memories of Mrs. Jones. At church she was known to give candy and money to children as they passed her pew.
On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, Frances transitioned from this temporary life to begin eternity with her Savior. She leaves to cherish her memory, her four children, Debera, James, Bernard, and Dianna all of Dallas, Texas, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and church family.
