They continued to live in Dallas, where she became the church pianist for Southern Oaks Baptist Church but was soon called to First Baptist Church in Oak Cliff. She served there for many years and also taught piano lessons during the week. She was a very gifted pianist and loved sharing this gift with others, especially at Christmas, when she hosted sing-alongs with neighbors, friends and family.
Vernelle had polio as a child, which affected her throughout her adult life, but that did not lessen her zeal for her Christian faith, which she shared constantly. She was a wonderful wife and mother; she always showed her great love for her family and friends. She prayed for them daily as she was a strong believer in the power of prayer. Her love for life, people and her Lord was shown in every aspect of her life and she will be greatly missed. Her family takes solace in the fact that she is now WALKING with her Lord in Heaven.
