Fred L. Gonzales

August 21, 1925December 2, 2018

Fred Ligarde Gonzales, 93, peacefully accepted the hand of our Heavenly Father on Sunday morning, December 2, 2018. He is now enjoying the company of his Savior and his beloved wife, Consuelo Flores Gonzales. Born on August 21, 1925 in Laredo, Fred made Dallas his home since the age of five. He was a graduate of North Dallas High School where he was a four-sport lettered athlete. Fred joined the United States Air Force upon graduation in defense of our country during World War II. He was a “radio man” and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving our country, Fred met and married the love of his life, Consuelo Flores. They were married for 48 years and one day when “Connie” accepted our Heavenly Father’s hand on April 28th, 1994. He mourned her every day the rest of his life.

With his wife and their three children, Fred lived a full, good life. He worked in the oil business and attended evening classes at SMU. After receiving his degree, he started his own real estate company, Dallas North Realtors. Fred also believed in the importance of keeping in good physical shape. He worked out regularly since the age of 12. Fred would play handball, squash, and basketball with his YMCA buddies several times a week. As he “matured”, Fred took up golf. He and his brother, Al, would play several days a week and when he could no longer participate in competitive sports, he practiced yoga.

Fred is survived by his daughters, Linda Robinson and her husband Brian of Dallas, Gloria Roemer of Stowell, son Fred R. Gonzales of Fairview, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Consuelo Flores Gonzales, mother Mercedes Ligarde Colunga, and brother Alfred Gonzales.

Fred’s family will forever miss his wit and sense of humor. Laughter came easily to him. There was never any doubt that he loved his family completely and unconditionally. Fred appreciated everything he was given. He was compassionate and nonjudgmental. Fred loved his country and was a proud veteran and member of the American Legion.

He will be laid to rest in a private service on Thursday, December 6th, at Calvary Hill Cemetery.

“He was not a perfect man, but he was perfect for us.”

Linda, Gloria and Freddie,

Words cannot express the emotion I felt this morning when hearing about your dad. He and your mom were both such special people to me. There are so many memories, from when they first hired me at Century 21 ( just out of real estate school) to the many lunches at Mercado Juarez ( Connie always said Fred would buy lunch), to the Caribbean cruise we took and so many other precious memories. Fred insisted I buy my first rent house ( we have 7 now) and helped me in so many ways. I am so sad for your loss and yet so glad that I knew both of them.
Love you all

Delois Francis
