Gary Lynn Mottwiler, 69, of Mesquite, Texas, went to be with the Lord on July 4, 2020. Born on December 2, 1950, in Dallas, Texas to Hugo and Dorothy Frizzell Mottwiler, Gary was the third and youngest son. Gary’s paternal grandmother was the former Katherine ‘Kate’ Harwood, first born daughter of William Alexander Harwood, the District Court Clerk of Dallas County in 1876, 1878 and 1880, and Elizabeth T. Thompson, daughter of George Brooks Thompson, builder of the first grist mill in Dallas where White Rock Lake is now located, who were among pioneer settlers of Dallas . Gary grew up in Urbandale and attended Urban Park Elementary, graduated Sunset High School in 1969, then attended El Centro College in Dallas. In 1970, Gary married Jodi Julian and together they had one daughter, Christi Shea Mottwiler Mojica. Gary started his career as an Assistant Manager with Minyard Food Stores and took early retirement in 1993. Before that, Gary worked in the food services at Reunion Arena, as manager, where he met many sports figures and music artists. Gary was an avid sports and music enthusiast. Gary met team members of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars and Dallas Mavericks, and band members from every concert that played in Reunion Arena. If there was a sports program on television or radio, you could be sure that Gary was tuned in. Gary’s favorite music artist is Eric Clapton and his pride and joy was meeting Clapton in person and receiving a personalized autographed picture from him. Gary had an extensive collection of sports and music memorabilia. Gary is preceded in death by his only child, Christi, and his parents, Hugo Mottwiler and Dorothy Mottwiler. Gary is survived by his brothers, Ronald Lee Mottwiler and wife, Linda, of Mesquite; Melvin Ray Mottwiler and wife, Betty, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and sister, Marlene Horner of Desoto, Texas; three grandchildren, Jacob Castro, and Elijah and Caitlin Mojica; and numerous nieces and nephews.
