
He was born in Hugo, Oklahoma on April 2, 1922 to Gene and Winnie Powell. Gene served 5 years in the United States Army during World War II, and was captured by the German military during the Sicily invasion. After the invasion, he served 2 years in the German POW camp. Then he returned home to Hugo, and later to Dallas where he met his loving wife, Nina.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Ruth Powell; son, Richard Powell; sister, Leona Hawkins; and brother, Tommy Powell. He leaves to cherish his precious memories his son, Steven Powell; daughter, Janet Powell; sister Emma Harris; grand-daughter, Ashley Walker; great-grandson, Dylan Moore; and great grand-daughter, Abbie Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will truly be missed by all that know him.
A visitation for Gene will be held Monday, December 16, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Both services will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home located at 6300 South R.L Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75232.
