Geneva Hill Walker was born March 10, 1931 in Tallahassee, Florida. She was the second youngest of thirteen children born to the late Arthur Hill Sr and Ethel Alveston Hill. She was a proud 1952 graduate of Lincoln High School.
Geneva was married for a brief time to JW Walker and they had one son Jeffery, affectionately called Billy. Her legacy of children also includes Eddie, Wilma and twins Annette and Bernadette.
Geneva confessed Christ on August 4, 1963 and joined Shady Grove Primitive Baptist Church #1. She was a faithful and dedicated member, serving as an Usher for 30 years. In November 2006 after her health status changed, she moved her membership to Greater Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church where she was chosen as a church mother. She taught Sunday School while her health allowed. After moving to DeSoto, Texas in March 2017, she joined the Concord Church and attended faithfully until her death.
Throughout her life, Geneva embraced her God given passion of caregiving and service to others. While her children were growing up, she regularly fed other kids in the neighborhood. She often prepared food and offered housekeeping for any elderly person she knew who was sick. She conducted multiple spiritual programs to raise money for the church, often cooking and selling fresh sweet potato pies, boiled peanuts and fried fish. To extend her arms of help even more, she joined the Old West Florida Matron’s Auxiliary and the Greater Mount Zion Missionaries. She was also a member of the Joshua Lodge.
Geneva was a domestic worker for over 20 years and a switchboard operator at Florida A&M University for 5 years. She later became employed as an Accounting Clerk for the State of Florida Comptroller Office Bureau of Payroll, where she retired after 26 years of service.
After retiring, Geneva volunteered at Miracle Hill Nursing Home for 5 years, braiding resident’s hair on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She greatly enjoyed her time spent with the residents.
While living in Texas, Geneva enjoyed reading her bible, working puzzle books and watching television. Among her favorite shows were Family Feud, Jeopardy and Paternity Court. She watched Joyce Meyers daily. She loved listening to gospel music. Geneva loved getting manicures and almost always wanted her nails polished blue. She talked to family and friends daily and always kept her cell phone within close reach.
