George W. Brown

George Whitehead Brown, born November 1, 1932, Galveston, Texas (BOI); passed away at home November 29, 2013. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. George served his country in the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Dallas. He began his career at Collins Radio with responsibility for many innovative programs. One of his favorite projects was designing ground communications for the Apollo Missions. Following his retirement in 1987, he founded a real estate development company with many successful projects. All who were involved with George respected his unfailing integrity, honesty and fairness. George enjoyed traveling with friends around the world including Africa, Asia, Canada, Mexico, South America, and the United States. Over the years he supported many charitable causes, including the Baby J Fund, Charlotte, NC, in memory of his grandson John Ladley, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. He is survived by his wife, Patti, who he adored. They would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on February 8, 2014. He is also survived by his daughter Beverly Ladley, her husband Mark, and grandchildren Alexandra, George and Sofia and by his daughter Barbara Obert, her husband Steve, and grandchildren Joseph and Fendley. They will remember him always as a wonderful dad and papa, a role he thoroughly enjoyed and cherished. George’s knowledge, honor, wit and unwavering loyalty were treasured by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by all. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center for Dr. Eugene Frenkel, Department of Oncology, 1801 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75235 or charity of your choice. On Saturday, December 7, 2013 an Inurnment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:30 pm with a Memorial Service following at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Our hope was to be in Dallas with you on Saturday but the trip became harder with the weather.
