George was born in Plano, Texas on November 23, 1929 to parents Edellia and O.H. Grubbs and moved with his family to Dallas when he was one year old. George lived in Southlake, a Dallas suburb, for many years and returned to Dallas at Edgemere three years ago. George was a devoted family man who enjoyed snow skiing, dancing, flower gardening and travel. George was known for his honesty, integrity and his gentle spirit. George was an active member and deacon at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
George married his sweetheart, Jeanne Kelly, their senior year at SMU. He graduated from SMU in 1950 with a BBA degree and soon his entrepreneurial spirit took hold and he started his own used car lot on Ross Avenue in Dallas. Within a few years, he moved the family to Roswell, New Mexico, where he and his wife, Jeanne, developed a large used car lot. After many dedicated years of hard work, he became the local Volkswagen dealer. His auto dealer success then took him to Waco with Volkswagen and finally to Bedford with Nissan, where he, Jeanne and the family worked together to build a wonderful family business. George was always willing to be accessible to any customer. George always encouraged his sons to do whatever they had passion for, but his positive example caused both boys to follow him into the new car business. The foundation he and Jeanne laid made it possible for the family to have multiple dealerships with sixty years of awards for sales and service excellence. Despite his achievements, George remained both humble and kind.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanne Kelly Grubbs; son, George Grubbs, Jr. and wife, Jan; son, Eric Kelly Grubbs and wife, Jenna; grandson, George Grubbs III and wife, Jenifer; granddaughter, Heidi Grubbs Evans and husband, Ross; granddaughters, Lauren, Caroline, and Julianna Grubbs; plus five great grandchildren, Trent, Kyleigh, and Tatum Evans; Lilly and Will Grubbs, along with his sister, Carole Zinn; niece, Debbie Stucker and husband, Mike.
